Yesterday we held our first-ever Post-Secondary Planning and Exploration Day. Our Seniors were able to use the day for any Post-Secondary planning they needed outside of school. Students in grades 10 and 11 took the PSAT for the first time in the digital format which went extremely well, and students in grade 9 participated in a Credit for Life Fair, a Career Fair, and also learned about a couple of unique career options through presentations in the auditorium.
The day was a success and we have received a significant amount of positive feedback about the day. Students in the career exploration portion said they found the information helpful and many staff said it was a good way for students to start thinking about their future and life after high school.
The feedback I am most proud of came from our presenters and guests at the event. Every person involved in presenting at the event was quick to compliment our students on how attentive they were at the presentations, how well they engaged at the Credit for Life Fair, and the interest they took in the various career options available to learn about during the day. We are working to set high standards and expectations at MHS in a variety of areas and we are continually looking to improve, but it was great to hear such high praise from several people from the community about our students!
It was a great day overall and I would be remiss if I didn't thank our incredible staff for making it happen. There were a lot of logistical details that needed to be thought out and put together and our staff was incredible; brainstorming and making the day come together. It was another example of how our staff is willing to support our students and create great experiences for them!
October continues to be a busy month with Teacher Conferences this week. There are also other updates to check out including information about a morning attendance call, so please be sure to take a look below for details and helpful information.
Morning Attendance Notification
We are adding this notification based on feedback from families that being notified at the end of the day does not provide real-time information if their student should be in school. Families who received a call/email in the morning will also receive a notification at the end of the day for all blocks in the day.
The new AM Attendance notification will state the following:
Good Morning. This is an automated call to notify you that your student, <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>, was marked absent in their first or second block today. If your student is absent today and you’ve already called or emailed, please rest assured that we will have your student’s attendance updated before the end of the day. If you have not notified us of your student’s absence, please do so at your earliest convenience by call or email. You can re-play this message by pressing the star key on your phone. Thank you
The PM attendance notification has been modified to state the following:
Good Afternoon. This is an automated call to notify you that your student, <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>, was marked absent today in blocks <<Periods Missed>>. If you received a call regarding absences this morning, this is an update that includes attendance for the entire school day. If you have any questions, please contact the main office. You can re-play this message by pressing the star key on your phone. Thank you
