Veteran's Day Parade
Veteran's Day Parade
East Elementary grades 1-6 will be marching in the Veteran's Day Parade. The Parade begins at 10 am on Morris Avenue and goes through Uptown Athens. It ends on the college green. Some grade levels will be staying to watch the Veteran's Day Ceremony.
Children are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue on Friday. They will also need to wear appropriate footwear and jackets.
Kindergarten students will walk up to East State Street to watch the parade.
Scholastic Book Fair is Coming!
The book fair will be open:

Dear Families,
Our Fall Carnival is fast approaching. We have many opportunities for our families to make this event fantastic! Below are some of the ways we need your help. Please consider signing up for one or more ways to be involved. The Fall Carnival is a much loved event by our students and their families.
Please check the way(s) you are able to donate your time or talent.
______ Help with set-up on Thursday, November 17th at 6:00 pm in the gym
______ Donate a baked good for the cake walk. Please drop off baked good by
Friday, November 18th @ 4:30 pm.
______ Donate money towards the large raffle prizes
______ Help serve food the night of the event
______ Help with clean-up at 8:00 pm in the gym

Food Pantry Collection Box
Thank you for all the donations so far. We had 68 items donated and we will continue to collect items all year:
The Athens City Schools Food Pantry (located at Chauncey Elementary) is always in need of donations. We have created a Donation Station outside of the office where we will collect food the entire school year.
Here are some suggested food the pantry is in need of:
Fruits and Vegetables (Fruit canned in its own juice with “no sugar added.” Vegetables labeled “low sodium” or “no salt added.”)
· Canned fruits or vegetables
· Frozen fruits or vegetables*
· Fruit or vegetable juice (100% juice)
· Spaghetti sauce
· Tomato sauce
Grains (Whole grains whenever possible. Look for 100% whole grain on the package, or a whole grain as the first ingredient on the nutrition label.)
· Brown rice
· Low-sugar, high-fiber cereal
· Whole grain pasta
Protein (Look for “no salt added”, low-sodium, and canned in water (instead of oil) varieties.)
· Canned beans
· Dried beans and peas
· Canned chicken, tuna, or salmon
· Peanut butter or other nut butters
Dairy (Donate low-fat (1%) or non-fat dairy products.)
· Boxed shelf-stable milk
· Calcium-fortified milk alternatives (soy, rice, or almond)
· Dry milk
· Evaporated milk
Additional Items
· Vegetable oils that are liquid at room temp. (healthier sources of fat and shelf-stable)
· Dry, ground herbs and spices so that clients can flavor their food without added salt.
· Low-sodium condiments, such as mustard and salsa
Items to Avoid
· Chips, candy, or cookies
· Sugar-sweetened beverages (soda & artificially flavored juice drinks)
· Pre-packaged meals (mac & cheese, ramen, boxed food with flavor packets, which often contain high levels of sodium
