JUST A REMINDER

We will not have school on Friday, April 15th, and Monday, April 18th. School will resume on Tuesday, April 19th. Enjoy the long weekend with family and friends! Hopefully, we will see more signs of spring!

Kids Heart Challenge

The Kids Heart Challenge (Jump Rope for Heart) was a huge success. Our school raised $3,523.80 for the American Heart Association! The top fundraiser was Henry Carlson who raised an amazing $669.64! Next was Kailey Stuart with an incredible $407.46. Third was Mackenzie Stapleton with an awesome $323.19 and finally Alex Paoloni with an impressive $297.60. I would like to acknowledge those students that raised over $100 each: Ryan Chinski, Morgan Jones, Benji Kemper, Everett Peeples, Clara Shatsman, and Dominick Slusser. Also, a very special thank you to all the parents and grandparents that came to volunteer to turn jump ropes and supervise stations during PE classes. We could not have done all that jumping rope without you! Again, thank you to all that participated in making The Kids Heart Challenge an astounding success!

ONE SCHOOL ONE BOOK

Our One School One Book adventure has begun. We are all reading the book How to Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell. Students should have brought their books and activities home this week. Please take this opportunity to read as a family and participate in some fun community activities: Scavenger Hunt, Choice Board Activities, and The Mystery Reader Log. We still have not shared the Mystery Reader recordings yet as we are still recording chapters. Remember to take pictures of all the activities you participate in and send them to lisa.george@weschools.org or karen.pasquale@weschools.org. Have fun!

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

The Bonnie Finney Story

The blue ribbon has been widely recognized as a national symbol of child abuse awareness. The movement began in 1989 when a concerned grandmother, Bonnie Finney of Norfolk, Virginia, took a stand against child abuse after experiencing the death of her grandson. She tied a symbolic blue ribbon to her van as a signal for the community of her commitment to involving everyone in the battle to stop child abuse.

Bonnie’s grandson, Michael Wayne Dickenson, was a young victim and his tragic death gave her the strength to encourage others to help in the fight against child abuse and neglect. As a result, the spirit of the blue ribbon grew, and it inspired a community-based effort to join forces in this tragic battle. Wearing a blue ribbon pin or wristband during April acknowledges that many children are victims of abuse and neglect and that prevention is the key to reducing it.

A MESSAGE FROM THE CLINIC

With the warmer weather comes a lot of rain! We do not send the kids out for recess in the rain, however, if the rain stops, we go outside! The clinic has been running low on extra clothes. Perhaps keeping an extra pair of pants in your child's bookbag would help so that way we do not have to call you for a clothing change.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

It is time for Kindergarten Registration. Your child must turn 5 by August 1, 2022, in order to be eligible to register. Call our office now at 440-942-7244 and speak with Mrs. Dugger about registering your child.
