A Message from Mr. Galindo
Dear Liestman Families-
It’s hard to believe that we recently celebrated the 100th day of school! After this week, we only have 17 weeks left. This month is one of the shortest months of the school year but is packed with a lot of work. We continue to focus on developing a growth mindset in our students. Look to Twitter for our mindset quote of the week and take time to discuss its importance in relation to our personal, family, and school lives. Our school’s focus for character education this month is Kindness. There is a difference between being kind and being nice. According to Owen Fitzpatrick, “being nice is when you are polite to people and treat people well. Being kind is when you care about people and show you care.” With all the challenges around us and National Kindness Day on the 17th, it is a good time to talk about this important difference. Our focus for social-emotional learning this month is self-management. As with every newsletter publication, please read on to learn what your child is learning this month. Reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions or concerns about their growth. Again, thank you for collaborating with your child’s teacher, working together ensures that he or she has the best opportunity to succeed.
Sincerely,
Noe Galindo, Principal

The Counselor's Corner
Happy February Chipmunks!
I am so excited for this month and all the great things we will accomplish this month. During the month of February we will continue to work on our Self Management of our feelings and emotions. We continue expand our diversity and learn about Black History and the Lunar New Year also known as Chinese New Year. Other important dates that we will learn about is National Counselor Appreciation Week and Dental Month. We will have great resources posted on twitter, Class Dojo, Liestman's Facebook Page on great dentists in our area and activities that promote healthy dental hygiene.
This month is one of my favorite months because we get to focus on our Kindness/Friendship Character trait. We will have a Kindness Week that will run from February 15th - February 19th, however look out for our Kindness/Friendship Calendar that will be sent this month as well. This is the prefect time to show your community how kind our Chipmunks can be.

Kindness
This month we’re talking about the beautiful character trait of Kindness. The dictionary defines it as: “the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.” But it is so much more than that! The definition we are using in class is:
Kindness: the choice to act with words, gifts, or actions to bring appreciation, positivity, and encouragement to others and yourself.
Below are the Family Letters in English and in Spanish that gives more information on what your Chipmunk will be learning about Kindness.
