COVID Testing Update
Thank you for your continued support as we kick off the 2021-2022 school year. At Attleboro Public Schools, keeping your students safe and in school is our top priority. We have learned a great deal over this past year and our current guidance and procedures reflect the most updated recommendations from the CDC and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
For the 2021-22 school year, we are offering an extra layer of protection to prevent the spread of COVID-19, our COVID-19 testing program at the ELC.
At this time if you provide online consent for your ELC student, we can conduct Symptomatic Testing which is used when a student is showing symptoms of COVID-19 during school; students should not come to school if they are feeling sick while at home. Some symptoms of the virus look identical to other illnesses like the cold or flu, and this test tells us whether asymptomatic student has COVID-19 or not. This is a rapid test, and we receive the results of this test within 15 minutes. If a student has minimal symptoms and tests negative, they can remain in school.
This is a quick, non-invasive nasal swab that is collected under the supervision of a school nurse or trained health provider.
To participate in the program, you must complete the online consent form below on behalf of your student. There is no charge for participating. If you have additional questions regarding the program, please contact Kim Janssen at kjanssen@attleboroschools.com.
It is our hope that these measures will work together to keep our schools safe and your student in school. Thanks again for your support during this challenging time.
Reminders
Please remember that there is no driving or parking in the coned off areas. It is helpful if you relay that information to any friends/relatives helping with drop off or pick up.
Absences:
I just wanted to thank the families who contact the office when their child will be absent for the day. While it is fine to text/remind/email your child's teacher as well, the office still needs to be notified. During the ongoing COVID reality we are living in, all absences need to be reviewed, and referred to the nurse as warranted. The ELC office number: (508) 223-1563
From the Health Office
If your child has any of the following symptoms that indicate a possible illness that may decrease the student’s ability to learn and also put them at risk for spreading illness to others, please DO NOT send them to school. Please check your child for these symptoms and if present, will need a PCR COVID 19 test (antigen test or otherwise known as rapid test cannot be accepted for symptomatic students) before returning to school:
COVID-19 symptoms list:
• Fever (100.0° Fahrenheit or higher), chills, or shaking chills
• Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
• New loss of taste or smell
• Muscle aches or body aches
• Cough (not due to other known cause, such as chronic cough)
• Sore throat, when in combination with other symptoms
• Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, when in combination with other symptoms
• Headache when in combination with other symptom
• Fatigue, when in combination with other symptom
• Nasal congestion or runny nose (not due to other known causes, such as allergies) when in combination with other symptom
In general, students with vomiting, fever, and/or diarrhea may not return until free of those symptoms for 24 hours – even if tested negative for Covid 19.
Nurse's Office needs donations of new underwear for boys/girls size 5 - 10 and new, or gently used, pants/shorts size 5-10.

Basket Bonanza @ Harvest Night
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Themed baskets will be raffled off at our Annual Harvest Night on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 6:00pm-8pm in the large gym. Each classroom has come up with their own specific theme (ex. Movie Night, sports, gift cards). Ask your child about their classroom’s specific theme.
Students may contribute an item that is related to their class theme basket or they may contribute a few dollars towards the purchase of an item. Student contributions are voluntary.
Please send in your contribution by Friday, November 5th to ensure adequate time to assemble all the baskets. Proceeds from the raffle of the baskets help to defer the cost of field trips and many special programs for Thacher/ELC students.
In past years, Harvest Night took place in October prior to Halloween and students dressed up in costume. Even though this event is taking place in November students may still dress up if they choose.
ELC Harvest Festival Basket Themes:
If possible, please bring in donations for these baskets:
- Pampering for Mom -- lotions, bath salts, chocolates..
- Get Ready for K -- workbooks, scissors, crayons...
- Family Fun game -- board game, popcorn, movie
- Bedtime -- books, jammies, bubbles..
Thank you for your cooperation and participation.
