Tashua Family Weekly Update
Mrs. Neumeyer, Principal
December 3, 2021
Dear Tashua Families,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! As we turn the calendar to December and wrap up with the 1st trimester of school, it gives us a chance to reflect on all that we have accomplished as a school community. We continue to build on our positive school climate as we work to teach our students about the character traits that represent our T.I.G.E.R.S. acronym.
This month, our Student Council is helping our students to show GENEROSITY by having
them participate in our annual school-wide “Holiday Helpers” Project; we are working
together to bring a brighter holiday to the children in our regional Head Start program in
Trumbull.
Further, our Tashua Community Service Committee will be helping us to strengthen the
message of showing GENEROSITY by sponsoring a “Tashua Toy Drive” event. Students are
asked to donate clean, gently used plastic toys. The collection dates are December 4th at
Tashua School for 9:00 - 12:30 PM and December 11th at Town Hall from 9:00 - 12:30 PM. Thank you to our Tashua Parent Alumni group who have worked to make this event possible again this year!
Although it is important to show our generosity with events such as these, it is also important that we send the message to our children that generosity goes beyond materialistic items. Acts of generosity require an awareness of the needs and feelings of others. These generous acts can be shown through our actions of sharing our time and talents with others.
There are so many wonderful opportunities for children during the month of December. It is a time for holiday parties, family get-togethers, holiday performances and holiday specials on TV. However, children can have too much of a good thing and can be easily overwhelmed! It is important to choose a few that your child will truly enjoy and forget the rest. Remember, children thrive when they stick to a normal routine as much as possible.
Congratulations to this Month's Principal Proud Board Students!
Kindergarten: Roxana Ciszewski, Teddy Decker, Vihaan Singh, Analise Locasto
Grade 1: Graziano Basile, Penelope Marini, Caio Miranda
Grade 2: Ryan Barber, Davis Burke, Alec Landino, Mia Russomano
Grade 3: Luke DelRossi, Blake Louis, Charlie Pisinski
Grade 4: Talia Gomes, Sammy Rumora, Tate Schietinger
Grade 5: Lyla DelRossi, Adam Jakubczak, Logan McDonough
Each month, classroom teachers select work samples to be displayed on the Principal’s Proud Board. Student work samples are selected based on a child showing strong academic growth or a child exhibiting work habits that exceed the grade level expectation.
Important Announcements:
Report Cards: Report Cards will be sent home Thursday, December 9th. Please be sure to review this report card with your child to celebrate all of his/her accomplishments and to set specific goals for improvement for the second trimester. Writing these goals down with your child and reviewing them periodically, will help him/her to be that much more successful and to feel proud for putting forth his/her best effort. If you have any questions regarding your child's report card, please be sure to contact your child’s teacher. A positive parent-teacher partnership contributes to your child’s success at school. Please don't forget to sign and return your child's report card envelope.
Winter Concerts/Holiday Sing-Along: Our Winter Concert for students who participate in Band, Strings and Grade 5 Chorus will be held on Wednesday, December 8th at 7:00 PM at Madison Middle School. For more information regarding concert attire, arrival times and more, please click on the link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Y6CSmLrpg19ozj8smPMJGePZqsJoBo5v/view?usp=sharing
In addition, our annual Holiday Sing-along will be held outdoors on Thursday, December 23rd at 9:00 AM. Parents are welcome to join us! Anyone who plans to attend should gather in the grassy courtyard behind the basketball hoops before 8:50 AM. Once the students start to exit the building for the sing along, guests will not be allowed to access the courtyard area.
If weather conditions do not permit for this event to be held outdoors, sadly we will need to cancel. Alternatively, children will sing in their classrooms with their peers while staff members sing over the announcements.
Reflections: Please encourage your child to participate in the 2021 PTA Reflections program. This year’s theme is: I Will Change the World By... The deadline for submission is December 20th. When submitting, be sure to complete an entry form (Include your arts category, division and full name on an envelope. No names should appear on the front of artwork.) Submissions will be reviewed by experienced artists for interpretation of theme, creativity and technique. We look forward to celebrating your artistry and achievement in the arts!
Delayed Opening Hours:
1 ½ hour Delay – 10: 05 AM – 3:20 PM
2 hour Delay – 10:35 AM – 3:20 PM
2 ½ hour Delay – 11:05 AM – 3:20 PM
Early Dismissal Hours:
8:35 AM – 1:00 PM
Reminder: Students who leave school, even a few minutes early, often miss important last minute instructions and/or reminders. Interrupting classes to call students to the office for an unplanned dismissal also distracts other students and interrupts the end of the day classroom routines. We ask that unplanned changes in dismissal are called in to the office before 2:30 PM.
Warm Clothing for Recess
Please be sure your child comes to school each day with a warm jacket or coat, hat, and gloves. We do try to get our students outside even in the cold weather so it is important that they are dressed properly so they can keep warm.
We thank you for your continued support for our work at Tashua School! As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or good news to share, please feel free to email me at NeumeyeJ@trumbullps.org or contact me at school at 203-452-4433.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Neumeyer

Spotlight on Social Emotional Learning
As we move into Trimester 2 at Tashua School, we are excited to announce that Social-Emotional lessons have started in every single classroom! Based on the grade level, different topic areas are being taught. Throughout the next few weeks, students will be learning new skills to handle friendship issues, manage their feelings, understand their “social filter”, self-advocacy skills related to your tone of voice, and so much more!
This week students have learned about:
Kindergarten: Expected and Unexpected Behaviors
*Expected: Making the best choice, actions that cause others to have a good/comfortable thoughts about us (ex: raising your hand to speak, using kind words, sharing)
*Unexpected: Not making the best choice, actions the cause others to have uncomfortable thoughts about us (ex: using mean words, running in the hallway, walking up the slide at recess)
Grades 1 & 2: Empathy
*Students listened to the story, “Empathy is Your Superpower”, by Cori Bussolari and answered reflective questions about the various situations explained in the story and based on real-life examples.
Grades 3-5: Barriers vs Bridges to Solving Problems
*Barriers: 1. Staying angry, 2. Saying something unkind or hurtful, 3. Doing something mean to the other person, 4. Spreading rumors or gossips to others
*Bridges: 1. Apologizing, 2. Saying how you feel “I-Statement”, 3. Own your part in the problem, 4. Make amends (make things better)
