Bulldog Bulletin -Weekly eNews-
Here is what's on top at Buena Vista! 5/25/2022!
Note from the Principal
Greetings Buena Vista Parents,
This is the final Bulldog Bulletin of the 2021-2022 School year. All week I have been anticipating how excited I was to write this message to all of you and share my excitement of having my first year as Buena Vista's principal under my belt. Then yesterday, in Texas, another tragic school shooting happened where 19 innocent students and 2 teachers lost their lives, and my excitement was dimmed.
I wish I had words of wisdom or insight, but in this scenario, there just aren't any. It's senseless and painful, and although it took place thousands of miles from us, we all feel the impact. We woke up this morning feeling a little heavier carrying this burden today... as staff got ready for work, students grabbed their backpacks and parents once again dropped off their students to Buena Vista School for another day of learning and growing. We keep moving, but we feel the weight of what the Uvalde community is feeling. Please know that our district has resources available if you need more support. I have included some resources below. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out directly to me.
What I do know is that over this last year Buena Vista Elementary has been a fun, happy, and exciting place to work and learn. Where the staff cares deeply about each other and their students and they work to collaborate and create exciting learning experiences for children. Where as a staff and district we have focusing and emphasizing the importance of social emotional learning and wellness for our students. Where the leadership our 4th and 5th grade students have demonstrated this year from safety patrol, lunch groups, and Up-stander ambassadors have made me very proud. And despite still facing some difficult times with the lasting effects of running a school through a pandemic/endemic...we accomplished a lot of great things at Buena Vista this year.
The support of the parent community here at Buena Vista has been amazing this year! Working with the PTA, WCEF, and the School Site Council has been a great experience as a principal, and I look forward to a continued partnership and the new addition of our Diversity, Equity and Belonging committee next year. If you are interested in joining any of these groups, please reach out....we love volunteers.
What I am trying to say, what made coming to school today a little easier on all of us is the amazing, supportive, and diverse community that is Buena Vista Elementary.

Mental Health Awareness Month
As we continue to recognize mental health awareness month, we want to share resources that promote student wellness. District wide, we will be teaching bullying prevention strategies, and linking emotional and social well-being with positive peer relationships. There is a strong link between bullying and negative outcomes on academic and social development which can impact mental health.
If you would like to speak with your children about this topic at home, here are some excellent resources to support your conversations. Thank you for your partnership.

DONATE NOW THRU JUNE 30; DON’T FORGET TO MATCH YOUR GIFT!
WCEF’s year officially closes on June 30 and our schools still need your support. Every student benefits from your donations, please donate any amount—large or small. 53% of our families have donated to WCEF to date—because the state does not fund beyond a basic education, we need every family to donate every year.
Don’t forget to match! Many employers will match your donations, sometimes doubling or tripling your gift. See if your employer has a matching program. If you work for a smaller company, ask your HR representative about matching. Increase the impact of your gift through matching!
