LEEDER OF THE WEEK: Shashank Chintham
Each week one learner in every class will be selected by the designer to be the "LEEder of the Week." Students will be selected by who showed the "Leadership Quality of the Week" best that week.
Our Leadership Quality of the week is Problem Solving
CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE WEEK
LEEdership Quality of the Week:
Creating solutions; finding answers
A lesson in Leadership:
You should never complain if the line is too long, the food isn’t good, or there is a wait. You don’t want to be negative to the point where you spoil the enjoyment of the event for others.
Lee Quote of the Week:
“We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations”
Portraits for the Yearbook
If you were not able to come to school to get your child’s picture taken for the yearbook, please feel free to send them to your child’s designer. You can have your child stand in front of any plain background (a white wall is fine), and take a picture. Please make sure the picture is not blurry. Please use the following picture as an example. Email your child’s picture to their designer by February 3rd, 2021 with your child’s full name and the word portrait in the subject line. Example below:
What we are learning:
READING & WRITING
Reading this week, we continued our read aloud, My Side of the Mountain. Learners are enjoying learning about surviving in the wilderness. We also started researching a topic in our reading Argument and Advocacy unit. They developed a research plan and started taking notes.
Math
In Math, we took the MAP NWEA assessment. Also, learners began a project demonstrating their understanding of multiplicative and addictive patterns.
SCIENCE
In Science, we continued our Earth Science Unit. Learners conducted an experiment on erosion by using the Gizmo app.
SOCIAL STUDIES
In Social Studies this week, we continued our research project on famous inventors of the 19th century. This week learners created a magazine cover illustrating their inventor.
Argumentative Reading and Writing
All elementary learners have access to free breakfast and lunch through the remainder of this school year.
Istation and Dreambox
Please make sure that your learner has taken the January ISIP for this month as well.
Important Information
Istation: At the beginning of every month, learners will take their monthly Istation assessments. They know the routine for this - there are 4 parts to this assessment - Vocabulary, Spelling, Comprehension (reading a story & answering questions), and Fluency. It is very important that you DO NOT assist your learner with this assessment.
Student Zoom Sign In Update: Please make sure that learners log into ZOOM with their g.coppellisd.com accounts starting on Monday, August 31st. If you would like more information, please view this website.
Here is a step by step guide on how to complete this action
Schoology: As we continue with virtual learning, Schoology is a very important tool during this time. We know some of our learners are using the app, but it is best for them to use the web-based version: https://schoology.coppellisd.com/
Learners need to make sure they are completing and submitting all of their work for each course since that is how we are taking attendance. In addition, although online learning is taking place at home, learners should be starting and finishing their work on their own as they would in-person at school.
Lee Specials Quarterly Newsletter: Our specials team puts out a newsletter each week. Check it out!
Box Tops: Did you know you can SCAN Box Tops and earn money for our school with items you already purchase for your home? Learn more about this quick and easy way to help our school.
