Character Education December Theme
Our Core Essential theme for December is Generosity.
Generosity is making someone’s day by giving something away. December is a great month to think about being generous with our actions. Since this is the season of giving, think of ways that you can show generosity by giving someone a smile or compliment.

WATCH D.O.G.S.
Our Watch Dog program consists of Dads or Father Figures of Great Students who volunteer one day at their child’s school. They will perform a variety of tasks including assisting with the car line in the morning, monitoring the cafeteria and helping in their child’s classroom. Please contact dhara.desai@cfisd.net if you are interested in participating and to schedule your date. We look forward to your participation and hope to see many dads at Farney Elementary!
LIBRARY LOWDOWN
NAME THAT BOOK COMPETITION
R-E-A-D! It’s time to READ, READ, READ!!!
Farney Elementary 3rd, 4th & 5th Grade students will be participating in the NAME THAT BOOK PROGRAM. The mission of the Name That Book (NTB) Program is to foster a life-long love of reading in all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. A list of books that encompasses a wide variety of genres has been provided, and students are encouraged to read as many as possible.
This program culminates annually with a series of contests to celebrate the students’ comprehensive knowledge of the books. The 100 books are chosen by CFISD librarians and are available at your library. In November, students will form teams within their grade levels. For the time being, they need to be reading the 100 books on the Name That Book List. You may go to your school’s Library Home Page and find the list of books under the Name That Book link or scroll down and click on the button! Happy Reading!!!
GUEST AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR
Thank you Blue Willow Bookshop for bringing author and illustrator Greg Pizzoli to speak to 1st grade students. The students sang, laughed, and learned how to draw using simple shapes.

From the Librarian
Dear Farney Families,
I am in the process of creating a “makerspace” learning environment in the library. What is a makerspace? It’s a place that allows for creativity and innovation to occur as students engage in learning through hands on experiences. Students will be given time to design, create, build and collaborate. In order to begin this opportunity in the library, we need to collect general household items, crafts and miscellaneous items. Thank you in advance for any donations that you are willing/able to provide. Donations can be dropped off at the front office or the library.
Glue: sticks, Elmer’s
Tape: scotch, masking, packing, painters’ tape (blue), duct tape (various colors/designs)
Paper: scrapbook, cardstock, construction
Craft items: Pipe cleaners, yarn, string, craft sticks, brads, pony beads, beads, rulers, scrapbook stickers, sequins, ribbon, jewels, pom-poms, cotton balls, velcro, paper clips, clay, model magic, play dough, crayons, markers, map pencils, scrap material, felt, googly eyes
Household items: straws (straight/flexible), paper plates, Q-tips, coffee filters, toothpicks, rubber bands, plastic cups, plastic spoons, clothespins, hole punch, kids scissors, cotton balls, cookie cutters, baggies
Recyclables: empty kleenex boxes, paper towel rolls, wrapping paper rolls, cereal boxes, shoe boxes, egg cartons, bubble wrap, styrofoam, newspaper, packing materials
