The RAMbler
Be Kind, Be Helpful, Work Hard
August 2020
What is a Middle Schooler?
What is a middle schooler?
He is timid and shy.
He knows all the answers,
But still will ask “Why?”
He is awkward and clumsy.
He is graceful and poised.
He is ever changing,
But do not be annoyed.
What is a Middle Schooler?
I was asked one day.
He is the future unfolding.
Do not stand in his way.
I was asked one day.
I knew what he was,
But what should I say?
He is noise and confusion.
He is silence that is deep.
He is sunshine and laughter,
Or a cloud that will weep.
He is swift as an arrow.
He is a waster of time.
He wants to be rich,
But cannot save a dime.
He is rude and nasty.
He is polite as can be.
He wants parental guidance,
But fights to be free.
He is aggressive and bossy.

A few RAMblings...
Welcome to the first RAMbler of the 2020 -2021 school year. You will receive these approximately once a month and they will include updates, announcements, upcoming events, and general Pleasant Hill Middle School information.
School Opening
What a wonderful opening with all of us getting a crash course in logging in to Google Classroom and joining Zoom. By this point, all students should be attending daily following the schedule below. If your child is still having technological issues, please first check our website link below and look under "Tech Tips" for guidance. If issues continue, please call our office and we can discuss next steps. We update our website daily and most questions that you may have can be answered at https://plhms-mdusd-ca.schoolloop.com/
Materials
We have had two days of distributing textbooks and teacher generated materials. Our third day will be next Wednesday, September 2, from 8:00 - 2:25. See our website link for alphabetized schedule. If technology is still needed, please call our office at 925 256-0791.Many families have been curious on how attendance and engagement are being documented during this time of distance learning. At this point, ALL students should be attending daily live instruction and completing the reinforcing lessons. The key below explains the levels.
- P = If a student is present during "live" instruction, small group or office hours.
- A = If a student is not present during "live" instruction, small group or office hours.
- 6= Student participated in speech, OT, PT, RSP, therapy, counseling
- 4= Student turned in an assignment, completed an assignment, submitted something online
- 3= There was a two way communication with the teacher from the Student/Family by email, phone or online.
Student Support
We at Pleasant Hill Middle School always try to do "what is best for students". It is the key question in our decision making and at the center of our work. We acknowledge that Middle School is at once, an exciting and adventurous time but also one of change and uncertainty. To support our students, especially in this time of distance learning, our Student Support team has been producing videos on a range of topics. Please see the link below.
