Dr. King's Update
Dear Student Families:
The State of TN would like this reminder about school attendance to be shared with all families. Please see below for the communication I received. It includes some information about absences and a short video.
Please Share Attendance Video
Audience: Directors of Schools and Principals
It is back-to-school time in Tennessee, and we want to take a moment to remind you that attendance matters for every child in every grade, from pre-Kindergarten through high school. The Young Child Wellness Council produced this video to promote the importance of school attendance. We encourage you to share the video with your school community. For more information and additional resources for your families and communities, visit the KidCentralTN website (here). To learn how chronic absenteeism impacts our state, review the recently released report Chronic Absenteeism in Early Grades.
Our SMART card official kickoff was today. Your child will bring home some information regarding SMART card sales. Thanks to Mrs. Davis and her crew for manning the table all week during classroom meetings! Please see the attached letter Mrs. Davis wrote to explain SMART cards. SMART CARD LETTER TO PARENTS.pdf

PTC Request
Campus School Parents - An easy way for us to provide BIG help to our teachers is by saving them time and making copies for them. We are looking for volunteers to make copies for the teachers on a daily basis. You can sign up for as many or as few days as works for your schedule.
You may spend as little as a few minutes, but normally not more than an hour, making copies each day. Please block a couple of hours in your schedule, just in case, to allow plenty of time to complete all copying. We ask that you arrive between 7:55 am and Noon, your exact arrival time in that window is up to you.
Group copy volunteer training will be provided to those signing up prior to the first volunteer date. Please use this link to sign up today!http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4caeaa23abf49-copy
Thank you for volunteering and helping the teachers spend more time in the classroom and less time making copies!
True Blue Friday
On Friday, August 19th, please have your student wear his/her navy polo for our school picture.
Parent Vision Letter Homework
Parent Vision Letters August 11, 2016
Pretend it is the last day of the school year. Why this was the best year ever?
We are asking that you write two (2) letters: one to your child in kid-friendly language and one to your child’s homeroom teacher. Our intention of these letters is to gain insight into your expectations of the school year.
The letter to your child will be placed in his/her student data notebook as encouragement from his/her home environment. The letter to the teacher will be referenced throughout the year in order to better understand your vision for your 4th grader.
Ideas to ponder as you write your letters:
· What does a successful year look like for your child in your mind?
· What vision do you have for this year and your child?
You are welcome to attach your two letters as a Word document via email or hand write them.
We would appreciate your responses no later than Friday, August 19th.
Thank you in advance for your participation in helping us set goals with your children this school year.

Fall Festival Basket Ideas
We are asking each classroom to put together a basket for the auction. Please do not spend much money, if any, on this project. Have the items donated from local businesses. Here are some examples of theme baskets for the auction: Movie Night, Family Game Night, Road Trip Basket, Spa Basket, Game Day Basket, Camping Basket, Cooking Basket, etc. Anything that the students work on together makes this item more valuable, especially if it contains handprints, thumbprints, artwork—you get the idea! Be creative! Please email your idea for your basket to Beth Loughry (bloughry@yahoo.com) to assure that we have a variety of items to be auctioned. The auction committee will put your basket together for you, however, please provide an itemized list of your donations and an approximate value of each item. These items need to be turned in by Friday, September 16th. PLEASE turn in your basket by the due date to give the auction committee time to put the baskets together. A letter is attached to this email for any business that donates and needs a record for tax purposes (Email me for the letter).
Thank you so much for helping with this important event
