Principal Update
Thank you for coming out to the family event last week; we're so glad the weather held to make for a beautiful evening. It was wonderful to see so many families, staff, and students enjoying time together. We have many more to come this year and look forward to experiencing them all with you.
The weather sure made a change this week, though! It's definitely starting to feel more like fall. It's chillier in the morning then warming up throughout the day, and we've been preparing for the eventuality of a few indoor recesses. Students are more often wanting coats and other warmer items outside; thanks for sending them and remember to write their names because as recess is still warm, they take them off in the afternoon! With the shift in the weather, it's also a great time to remind families that we line-up outside for arrival/dismissal and go outside for recess in a majority of weather conditions. We typically only have indoor line-up/recess for heavy rain, severe windchill/low temperatures.
Ongoing Reminders
- If your child is biking to school, please provide them a lock and remind them to lock their bike. We have quite a few unlocked bikes as well as an unlocked e-bike; we can help as well, just let us know!
- When letting your students out of the car, please have them exit the car on the curb side not the street side. We have many cars driving past, exiting the curb side keeps everyone safe!
- One Spokane Stadium will celebrate its ribbon cutting on Sept. 26 at 11 a.m., the unveiling of Joe Albi Way and Plaza on Sept. 30 at 10:30 a.m., and will host a community open house on Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
- Please label all your student's belongings! Backpacks, lunchboxes, water bottles, extra clothes, and more! This helps us return lost items to their owner rather than placing in the increasingly full lost and found!
- Want to play basketball in the winter? Any and all students can join a Hooptown Team, sign up here! We are the Ferris + Bryant Registration.

Bus Zones at Moran Prairie
- The drop off lane we are referring to is the loop that runs along the sidewalk and grass from the west entrance on 57th (right by the sanctuary and near Bloom), in front of the building by the main entrance, and around to the far east exit closer to 57th and Glenrose. This whole loop is a no-parking area; we ask that you remain in your car so you can move it forward as other cars leave with their student. This loop and these spots are often used by transportation, maintenance, emergency services, and need to stay accessible as much as possible. If you are going to leave your car to wait for your student by the school, please park in one of the spots in the center of the lot then cross at the cross walk with crossing guards to come to the building.
- We have one spot that we are reserving for special Zum transportation for a few students. There will be a cone with a sign marking this spot along the drop-off lane near the front of the building; please do not park there or wait there, otherwise the marked Zum van will not have a place to safely pick up their students.
- The spots in the drop off lane closest to the east exit (by 57th & Glenrose), are reserved for our special education buses. They are marked by a sign in the sidewalk and an arrow indicating the spots. No cars may park or wait in these spots, these are required spots for the bus that cannot currently access them. See picture below showing the spots I am referring to.
I know parking gets very tight around dismissal. A few suggestions if you want to park and wait outside the building for your student rather than wait in your car in the drop-off zone:
- If the main lot is full, you can park up on Yale (just not in the areas indicated for bussing).
- You can park along 57th by Glenrose and walk down.
- You can park at the bus center and cross with our crossing guard over to the school.
We thank you very much for your attention to this issue, and we appreciate your help in making it run more smoothly and safely for all!

Counselor Corner
It has been a busy week visiting classrooms to talk about what I do as a school counselor at Moran Prairie. Students were reminded that if they have a problem, they can fill out a "Let's Talk" form and that is a great way for me to know they need to talk with me.
