Principal Pettaway to lead Summit Middle School
New school start date: August 24
Johnston senior named national TSA president
Johnston High School incoming senior Esha Bolar has been elected president of the Technology Student Association (TSA), a national organization of students engaged in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). She will serve as president in the 2022-23 school year.Bolar’s election came at the 2022 National TSA Conference held June 26-30 in Dallas, Texas. Read more.

Dragon baseball, softball teams have winning seasons
JHS sophomores compete in national FCCLA conference
Incoming JHS sophomores Bria Fisher and Ava Christenson competed and won a silver award at the FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) national leadership conference in San Diego after winning gold in Iowa. The students’ project featured helping Best Buddies with Dragon Cart at Johnston Middle School.
Johnston dance teams kick off season with awards at NDA camp
Members of the Johnston varsity and JV dance teams kicked off the season by attending four days of National Dance Alliance (NDA) camp at Iowa State University for team work, bonding and dancing. They received numerous awards, including a superior rating and 1st place for their team dance.

Superintendent Kacer recognized incoming JHS sophomores Bria Fisher and Ava Christenson, who competed and won a silver award at the FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) national leadership conference in San Diego after winning gold in Iowa. She also recognized Raine Mollenbeck, the new principal of Timber Ridge Elementary, and Kaniesha Pettaway, the new principal at Summit Middle School. She also provided the board with several postsecondary updates.
