Central Elementary Community Update
January 15, 2024
Lubbock - Cooper Central Community,
As many of you know Cataleya 'Cat' Carrasco, a Central Elementary 5th grader, has had a scary weekend and very well may have a challenging road ahead. Cat was experiencing some severe symptoms at school on Friday. Our campus nurse, Mrs. Caldwell, contacted her parents and expressed some concern which led to them seeking further medical advice. A brain tumor was found and thankfully surgeons were able to move quickly. Most of the day today Cat was in surgery and as of this evening the report is that the tumor was removed in its entirety.
Speaking as both a principal and a parent I am at a loss. I know that I am eager to support Cat and her family in any way I can. I am hopeful this precious and lively young girl makes a full recovery and joins us back on campus soon.
I share this with you all knowing that some of you or your children know Cat very well, and some of you may not know her at all, but all of you are part of our Central Elementary community. In the coming days there will be an opportunity to buy a shirt to show support to Cat and her family. Any and all proceeds of the shirt sales will go to help the Carrasco family with immediate financial needs. Tomorrow all staff and students are encouraged to wear blue (Cat's favorite color). Though she may not know it just yet, she has tremendous support and love being sent her way.
- Thank you to Mrs. Caldwell for voicing her observations and concerns with the Carrasco family which led to them getting her checked out on Friday.
- Thank you to Mrs. Christy Pagan for working through the details of finalizing a shirt for Cat and arranging to have flowers prepared to send to the hospital.
- Thank you to Local Legends for working with us so quickly and offering a shirt at cost so that more funds can go straight to the family and their immediate needs
- Thank you to our C-PTO for immediately asking what they can do to help and sharing the meal train out with our community.
I know there are many others to acknowledge. What an amazing thing to have too many people to thank for being such an amazing community.
