Mrs. Rigsby - Aditya

This week we are continuing to subtract 2 digit numbers. The students will use the strategy of Using Addition to check Subtraction. They will also be solving and writing story problems.

We will also continue to take our math facts tests. The state expectation for second grade is that the students know these facts with automaticity. The students are using the program FASSTMath at school to practice each day.

Language Arts & Social Studies

This week's spelling pattern is Bossy R (er, ir, ur).

We will be reading the nonfiction story, Alvin Ailey Kids and focusing on the comprehension strategy of summarizing. We will also spend some time working with alliteration and learning how to use a thesaurus to find synonyms and antonyms.

In Social Studies, the students will be learning about Thanksgiving facts and will get a chance to "board" the Mayflower with their classmates.

We are beginning a new unit on health. During this unit the students will understand and communicate the importance of health. They will also learn how to create safe plans/ tips for dangerous situations and how to develop a healthy meal.

Notes from the Teachers

Please be sure to write your child's name in their jackets and lunch boxes. Many of these are finding their way to the lost and found.

Our next science unit is health and we would love for your to help us by bringing in some grocery store flyers. The students will be cutting the pictures of food items out and use them in an activity.
