Last October over 1.5 million juniors across the nation took the PSAT/NMSQT. Out of this group approximately 16,000 students were named semifinalists and now have the opportunity to advance and become finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. The D303 Financial Aid Night will be hosted on Monday, September 27th beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Norris Cultural Arts Center (NCAC) at St. Charles East H.S. Mary Crowe from Elgin Community College’s Financial Aid Office will be on hand to provide an overview of the college financial aid process and to answer questions from the audience. This event is open to all students and parents.

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH runs from September 15th through October 15th. We celebrate Hispanic Heritage and recognize the current and past achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans who have inspired others to achieve success. St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 strives to provide all students with the best opportunity to succeed academically, socially, and behaviorally in school. As part of this commitment, District 303 is enhancing our Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) across the district for the 2021-2022 school year.

This year, students in grades 3-12 will be completing a universal screening tool to assess their social and emotional learning skills. The use of universal screening allows us to refine and strengthen our efforts to help all students achieve success by taking positive and preventative measures as early as possible. This also provides us with the opportunity to assist students who may need additional support with social and emotional learning.

One of the universal screening tools used by the District is the Panorama SEL Survey, which focuses on the following areas:

• Self-Management

• Emotional Regulation

• Social Awareness

• Grit

• Self Efficacy

• Sense of Belonging

• Teacher-Student Relationship

The Panorama SEL Survey will be completed two times this school year during the weeks of September 27th to October 8th and March 14th to 25th. If a screening shows that a student will benefit from additional skill development, parents will be contacted and will work in collaboration with school staff to problem-solve and determine next steps.
