LPES Electronics Policy Reminder
WCPSS Policy:
Electronic Devices Except when authorized for instructional purposes, no student may use a wireless communication device or personal entertainment device during instructional hours. Any device used in violation of this policy will be confiscated and returned to the student's parents. See Board Policy regarding Code of Student Conduct.
Board Policy 3225:
F. USE OF PERSONAL TECHNOLOGY ON SCHOOL SYSTEM PROPERTY
Each principal may establish rules for his or her school site as to whether and how personal technology devices (including, but not limited to smart phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) may be used on campus. The school system assumes no responsibility for personal technology devices brought to school.
LPES Parent & Student Handbook:
TOYS/ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Students may not bring toys of any kind to school, except when prior approved by a teacher or staff member. Toys brought in for special occasions must be kept in book bags for the rest of the school day. School personnel cannot be responsible for the safety of any toys or electronic devices brought to school.
Electronic devices such as iPads, iPods, DS systems, Game Boys, radios, CD players, listening devices/ recording devices, MP3 players, etc., are not permitted at school. Trading cards also should remain at home. Please encourage your child to keep these items safely at home so that nothing can happen to them at school and so that he or she can focus on learning. Items brought to school in violation of this policy will be kept in the office until a parent comes to school to pick them up.
If you feel your child must have a cell phone, GPS device, or smartwatch he or she may leave it in their book bags, turned off, during morning arrival, school hours (8:45 am - 3:45 pm), and during dismissal. This policy is aligned with our feeder middle schools. Laurel Park staff could make an exception to this plan for for medical plan purposes. If a student violates the BYOD/ School policy they may have their phone confiscated and turned into the main office for parent pick-up.
BYOD
Laurel Park Elementary will begin a Bring Your Own Device program for our rising 5th grade students during the 2018-19 school year. This is an optional program that would allow 5th grade students to bring their personal device from home to school for use in class as an instructional tool. All parents and students are required to sign the BYOD contract, which is available on our website, prior to participating, and must adhere to a strict code of conduct developed by the Wake County Public School system. Failure to do so will result in a student’s removal from the program. Laurel Park Elementary as well as the Wake County Public School System assume no responsibility for lost, damaged, or stolen devices. For more information about the program, please visit the school website.
STEAM NIGHT IS COMING SOON!
Our 4th STEAM Night is coming on January 24 from 5:30-7:30. Many engaging presenters are already set to attend but we are looking for some amazing Penguin Volunteers(Parents & Students) to help with 30 minute shifts for this fun learning filled event.
