WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
Language: Children will be able to identify the letters of the alphabet and things that begin with the letters. We should be able to name all the vowel letters-a,e,i,o,u. Please continue to review these letters at home. We will be playing the game Make It, Break It. In this game we will say a word like "fox" then we will break it apart. We will say the first sound and leave the rest of the word in tact- /f/-ox. We are verbally teaching blending of words and we will review rhyming and segmenting words. This becomes a skill as we head toward reading. We are making a portfolio of written work.
Math: Your child will be able to rote count to 30 (4 year olds) and rote count to 10 (3 year olds) and starting on measurement. We will be measuring each child's height. We will be working with words-tall,taller, tallest, short, shorter, shortest. We are also continuing to review all our shapes and colors.
Social Studies: Your child will be learning about different environments on our planet. We will look at the zoo habitats, and the jobs the people do at a zoo. We are looking for how people are the same and different.
Science:Your children will be learning the importance of zoo animals and large wild animal habitats.
FULL DAY PK
ZOO PROJECT
We will be discussing the zoo along with the other classes. We are going to undertake a learning based project because we have more time in our day to work. We are going to create a pretend zoo in our room. For this week students will be asked to bring a zoo animal. We will be setting up a stuffed animal zoo in our classrooms. We will be tagging the animals to ensure they come back home with the correct owner. Students will be learning about zoo jobs, different habitats, how to group animals, how to make a map, how to invite guests to an event. Animals will be caged most of the day. Please send zoo animal on FRIDAY MAY 5th with your child.
NAP ROOM
Please don't forget to bring nap room blankets on MONDAY.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week
Our full day students get to go to MAPS classes in the morning. During this week while you will remember the PK teachers, let's not forget those teachers who give your children extra learning opportunities at school.
Mrs. Gromesh our music teacher.
Mrs. Moore our librarian.
Mrs. Sorrels our art teacher.
Ms. Terry our science discovery teacher.
Let's show our Appreciation for them in some small way. They have worked very hard this year opening their classroom to the youngest students in our school. They also have lists at http://www.icepta.my-pta.org/
WARM WEATHER CLOTHES
We are experiencing warmer weather-which is exciting. We are asking that your do not send your child to school in flip flops, sandals or open toed shoes. They need to be able to run and play on the playground. The best shoes are tennis shoes or cross trainers. We would also like you to check your child's backpack to make sure their extra clothes are warm weather appropriate. Extra clothes MUST be in their backpack. Please make sure to send your child's back pack daily. We are noticing some students are not bringing their backpacks and do not have an extra set of clothes. At this time of year our nurse has very few items to change your child into if they have an accident or get sick.
