Information and Reminders
- I am sending home conference information today. Please read it and choose your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice and return tomorrow.
- There is a new list of words to study this week. They are listed as word wall words. They are the words the students will need to read and spell correctly . These are words that are used with our new writing series .
- I am sending home a login card for you to access your child's math book online.

Reading
Weekly Stories: A Cupcake Party
Skills this week:
- reviewing words with the short u and ending clusters(bus, hut, hunt, jump, etc.)
- Identifying what a statement is
- Learning new sight words
- Identifying the beginning, middle, and end parts of a story
- Identifying synonyms
The students will have a spelling and sight word test on Friday this week. The students will only need to practice the words from the story A Cupcake Party this week on Spelling City .com.

Word Wall Words: Students should be able to read these words. We will work on spelling these correctly when we write during writer's workshop. They will not be on the spelling test.

Math
The class will continue a unit on subtraction. We will be using counters of various kinds to learn the concept of something being "taken away" and an amount being left. This week we will focus on subtraction from 4, 5, 6, and 7 and writing a subtraction sentence up and down and side to side (horizontal and vertical) and word problems.
Science
This week we will complete our unit on the scientific skills of observation, comparing and classifying. We will continue to use science tools such as hand lens, droppers, measuring tapes, and forceps. There will be an assessment given this week on what we have learned in class.
Homework
Mon. - math sheet; study sight words; choose one way to practice spelling words
Tues. study sight words; choose one way to practice spelling words; no math sheet
Thurs. -take a practice spelling test in the spelling notebook; reading worksheet
Friday- reader's response journal due back on Friday this week. Try Raz-kids online.
