PTA Rally Day: Vouchers

In the weeks leading up to the Texas PTA Rally Day, we want to highlight each of the key legislative priorities for the Texas PTA this year.

This week: Vouchers

School vouchers are taxpayer-funded government subsidies that are taken away from public schools and instead directed toward private schools and vendors. While advocates of vouchers use the term “school choice” to describe their efforts, the truth is vouchers provide no accountability to the state and can only be used by those who are accepted to private schools and are most likely already in a financial position to afford private school tuition.

This process takes much needed funds away from public schools. School vouchers hurt Texas public schools because they direct funding away from an already critically underfunded system.
