School Information

Lost & Found: Reminder to start checking the lost and found and bringing home things out of their lockers that they don't need anymore (hats, boots, coats, jackets).


Save the Date 8th Grade Recognition: The Ceremony is on Thursday June 9th at 9:30am with a light reception (in the cafeteria/green space) immediately following the ceremony.


End of the Year Field Trips: All grades will be going on end of year field trips, 6th grade to Bowlero, 7th grade to Cheap Skate, and 8th grade to Valley Fair on Friday, June 10th. Field trip forms and more information to come.

8th Grade Field Trips

Junior Achievement Finance Park – May 25th or May 26th

What is Finance Park: 8th graders will have an opportunity to participate in Junior Achievement Finance Park which introduces students to personal finance and career explorations through classroom instruction complemented by a day-long hands-on experience where students apply learned concepts in a life-like community. During this one-day experience, students assume family and income scenarios and visit businesses to gather information for their personal financial decision-making


If your student has not turned in their permission slip you may download it here and have your student drop it off in the main office or you can fill it out electronically and send it to our Learning Lead, Mike Krech at Michael.Krech@spps.org

JA Finance Park Permission Slip



Valleyfair – June 10th (9:00am – 6:00pm)

8th grade students will have an opportunity to go to Valleyfair on the last day of school, June 10th for free!! Thanks, in part to the generous Ramsey PTO. Student can bring lunches or buy food at the park, if they choose.


Buses will arrive back at Ramsey around 6:00 pm on June 10th. Students will need to have a ride arranged to pick them up at the school at that time. Families, please utilize Cambridge St. and the Grand Avenue to pick up your students. Avoid parking on Summit because that is where the buses will be unloading after the trip.

French Immersion Information

Proficiency testing at Ramsey MS


This year, we have district funds to support language proficiency testing for 8th grade students in our Ramsey French immersion classrooms. A proficiency test determines the level of language proficiency a student has achieved, regardless of how the language was taught or when it was learned. A language proficiency assessment is not meant to be an evaluation of a teacher or learner. Rather, we hope the data will inform our teaching practices and program design, as well as present a more holistic picture of what our learners can do in the target language.


This year we are using the STAMP 4S assessment in grade 8. The “4S” is the four skill areas and the assessment consists of 4 parts - reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students will need approximately 45 minutes to complete each section, for a total testing time of 3 hours. District staff will be present to help proctor and provide on-site support for the classroom teachers and learners. There are sample tests available for students to take with the classroom teacher beforehand.


All results will be shared with the classroom teacher, students, and families/guardians. A guide to interpret the results will be included as well.


Ramsey 8th graders are scheduled as follows:

½ of the students: Tuesday / May 24

½ of the students: Friday / May 27

Testing will begin in the morning. As students finish, they will return back to their regular classes.

Madame Payia Yang has a list of who is testing on which day and this will be communicated with all staff so that the student is not marked absent.

Rotary Award Winners

Nine 8th grade students were recognized by Ramsey teachers as being positive, impactful leaders in the building. They have made growth as middle schoolers and will be a part of the Rotary Day award ceremony, May 25th at 5pm. The students are:

They will be receiving a Target Gift Card, a certificate commemorating their achievements and recognition in the Saint Paul Pioneer Press. The school will receive a Rotary Day Plaque recognizing these fine young students. If you see them, congratulate them!

Tech Tips

On Wednesday, June 8, all students will be cleaning iPads at school. All students are welcome to keep the iPads for the summer, returning to school with them in the fall. Any students who are attending Summer School must keep their iPads and bring them to summer school. Only those students who are not returning to St. Paul Public Schools or students whose families don't want the iPads over the summer will turn them in at the library with the case and charger on June 8 after cleaning. Eighth graders attending a St. Paul Public Schools high school do not turn iPads in unless their family doesn't want it over the summer.

Classroom Updates

6th Grade Team

The 6th Grade team is counting down the final days of school year with the ABC's and each day will have a new theme. See the image for more information. Ask your 6th grader about all of the fun to come.

Counseling Corner

Current 6th & 7th Grade Families: Please be on the lookout in the next 2 weeks for course selection forms. Students will be reviewing their required courses and making selections for the enrichment/elective courses and advanced math requests, Wednesday May 25th for 6th graders during 1st period and Thursday May 26th for 7th graders during 2nd period. Forms are for your review and DO NOT have be returned. Students will select classes online, in school. Parents will be able to view their students' courses before everything is finalized.


Current 5th graders planning to join Ramsey: Welcome letters (from Ramsey) will be going out in the next few weeks. Welcome letters will contain information about required courses, requests for advanced math and band as well as who to reach out to with your questions. We're happy for all new and returning families joining us in the fall.

Health Office Message

COVID Testing Kits

If your student develops any COVID symptoms, please have them take a COVID Test. Rapid COVID 19 Test Kits are available for students to take home (BinaxNOW). You can call the health office during school hours at 651-888-7657, then come to school to pick it up or we can send it home with your student while quantities last. That way you have one available if you need it.


BinaxNOW Test Kits Shelf-Life Extended

Abbott BinaxNOW test kits expiration dates have been extended by the manufacturer. The BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Cards have been found to have a shelf-life of up to 15 months, extending the kits for use past their 12-month expiration date. Kits can be used for an additional 3 months post-expiration date.


Please monitor daily for symptoms of COVID-19. If any symptoms develop, stay home and test. Report positive COVID test results to the school health office. This is the best way to know of cases in our school community. We will help determine isolation and quarantine dates and when your student can return to school.
