Testing Letter for Parents
Dear Sycamore Families,
As we move through the 2017-2018 school year, our students will once again be presented with the opportunity to demonstrate their progress as part of the schedule for federally and state-mandated standardized testing.
The state’s annual assessments provide a snapshot of your child’s progress in their understanding and application of curriculum standards. From a district perspective, these results allow us to benchmark ourselves against similar districts and to identify trends in data that will guide our work with teachers and students. Our teachers work diligently to fully prepare your child to be successful on these assessments and in other aspects of their growth and development.
Below you will find a link that delineates the specific testing schedule for students in grades 3-12. Please click on the link that applies to your child(ren):
We are so appreciative of the support you provide your children in our partnership together toward academic excellence. If you have any questions regarding testing, please contact your building administrator.
Sincerely,
Karen. B. Naber
Assistant Superintendent

LobbyGuard now in use at Greene!
Dear Sycamore Families, Friends, and Stakeholders:
Our district is always looking at ways that we can make our schools safer and implement new processes in order to support that mission. LobbyGuard is a visitor management system that is part of that work. It is a system to "check in" visitors to our school and provides that we are ensuring accountability for all the people in our building. It is a program to assist us with our check in and check out process, ensuring we know who is in the building, who visited and when they came and left.
The program also runs a background check on each individual who enters the school. The LobbyGuard Management software looks for sex offenders and allows us to create a custom list for individuals who are banned from picking up children (i.e. potential custody situations, restraining order, etc.).
The program at Greene began regular use on April 6, 2018 as a pilot for the remainder of the year. The program will be fully implemented the first day of school in August and will be required for any visitor that is entering the school building.l
A couple of key pieces that will be a change for visitors to our school buildings:
- All individuals planning to enter the school will be asked for a state issued license or identification. If you do not have a license or state i.d. you will not be permitted to enter the building. You will be asked to wait in the lobby for your student or reason for being present at the building.
- If individuals do not have access to a state i.d., they should seek out how to obtain proper identification.
- All individuals will be asked to sign in and sign out upon use of the program.
- All individuals will be required to wear the badge that prints out with their picture on it for the entire time they are in the building. This easily identifies each person as a visitor. Regular staff will all be wearing their identification badges.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the district.

Earth Day 2018
Plant a Tree for Earth Day!
For Earth Day 2018, Student Council and the Eco Team are sponsoring a tree drive! Council saw a need to replace trees in our community that were lost to the Emerald Ash Borer, development, and climate change, and chose two hardy native trees to offer Greene students:
Plant a Tree for Earth Day!
The Eastern Redbud is a lovely “front yard” tree that grows 20’-30’ tall, thrives in a variety of conditions, and produces rosy-pink flowers in spring.
The Northern Red Oak is a stately “back yard” tree that grows 60’-100’ tall, prefers well-drained soil, and turns bright red in fall.
Since growing a tree requires patience and care, students are encouraged to sign up for a seedling only if they have their parents’ permission and an appropriate space. (Seedlings can be grown in a pot and transplanted if the right spot isn’t available right away.) Trees will be distributed on Greene’s Earth Day, which is Tuesday, April 24th. Other will activities include a visit by three birds of prey from Raptor, Inc., and making bird feeder “necklaces.”
If you have any questions or would like to help, please contact Sarah Newman at snewman1@cinci.rr.com.
