Hickman High School
College and Career Information
Hickman High School's Counseling Department and A+ Office are excited to share the resources in this newsletter. We want each Kewpie to graduate from our school College and Career Ready.
In partnership with Hickman's AVID Community, we are sharing this information with all students through this website and bulletin boards around our school. We encourage students to look for college and career representatives that often have tables of information during the lunch shifts.
Planning for after high school can happen at any grade level. Check back later for some Grade Specific Timelines and Resources.
What Will You Do After High School?
Check out the planning guide below to get ideas and help for planning what to do after you graduate.
Missouri's A+ Scholarship
Students at Hickman are invited to become part of the A+ Scholarship Program. This program, funded by the State of Missouri, is a way for students to earn money for college by coming to school, doing well in their classes, having a good record of behavior in the building, and being proficient in Algebra 1.
Students that are certified as A+ can have tuition paid at a variety of schools in the State. Colleges and universities that aren't "A+" schools may have other scholarships that could go toward the cost of attendance. For a list of A+ Colleges click here.
Once an application is completed and returned to the A+ office (inside Counseling) students and their guardians are able to track their progress on the eligibility requirements through the Families Portal or by stopping by the A+ Secretary, Ms. Collier. The application for A+ Is found below.

Paying for College
Scholarships
Free Money? Yes, please!
Scholarships are a good way to offset the costs of college. Most colleges and universities have automatic scholarships based on a student's academic record and/or test scores. Private organizations and employers are another great source for scholarships. Hickman has nearly 35 scholarships that seniors can apply for during the early part of the spring semester by completing just one application.
Students should also spend time searching for scholarships. Many of our former students have found one of these scholarship databases helpful:
Please be aware that there are scholarship scams that happen every day. The Federal Trade Commision has information about this at their website: How to Avoid Scholarship and Financial Aid Scams
Financial Aid
To access need-based financial assistance students need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also called the FAFSA. Completing this during the fall of a student's senior year shares information with the student's top college choices who are then able to use the information to create a financial aid package to help cover the costs of attendance.
There are a few steps to this process. It all starts with both the student and guardian creating an FSA ID. This flyer will help walk you through the steps: Tips for Creating your FSA ID
There are some scholarships that are limited to students from Hickman, Columbia, or Boone County. We have these, as well as some other scholarships, in a Google Doc for you to research.
