NEW! Message from the Principal
Hello, Eagle Families!
This Wednesday we kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with a quote from Emiliano Zapata and a brief history of his role in Mexican history, read in Spanish and English by Señor Escalona during our morning announcements. We have asked for any of our Spanish speaking students to stop by Señor Escalona's room to learn how they can help continue this celebration of Hispanic culture throughout the month. Please check out the Eagle Newsletter item below to see how we're celebrating Hispanic culture in our library this month!
This week our staff participated in professional growth focused on inclusive practices in schools and classrooms across our district. This work falls under the Equity journey we've already begun, but with a particular focus on inclusion for our students with disabilities. Inclusion can be defined as a state of being valued, respected, and supported. It's about focusing on the needs of every individual and ensuring the right conditions are in place for each person to achieve his or her full potential (source: hud.gov). During our professional learning time, we focused on understanding the why behind inclusion, the use of inclusive language, and spent some time in self-reflection to help teachers and staff identify their next steps in building an inclusive school/classroom. We're excited about this work as we continue to prioritize Relationships, Inclusion, Supports, and Experiences this year so we can RISE Together!
I hope you all have a restful weekend and we can't wait to see our students again on Monday!
Your Proud Principal,
Kellie Moore

NEW! Eagle Center Needs Your Support
The Eagle Center needs your support! Each day, over 50 students take advantage of the services in the Eagle Center each lunch period – yours may be one of them! Our students enjoy playing board games, chess, doing art activities, reading, or talking with friends. Our students would love to have additional Chess sets and decks of Uno! If you have any gently used chess or card decks, or can donate a new set, the students would greatly appreciate it! Please drop off any donations at the front desk. Thank you!
NEW! National Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 to October 15 is National Hispanic American Heritage Month where we recognize the accomplishments and contributions of Hispanic Americans who have inspired others to achieve success. Mesa Verde joins in paying tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.
NEW! Eagle Scout Project
Brandon shared this with us: "For the rank of Eagle Scout, I wanted to do a project that had some sort of significance to me instead of just some random job to get over with. I decided to do a seating area for Mesa Verde because I had attended the school previously, and had a lot of great times and good memories here. Doing this project was sort of my way of giving back, so I’m glad that I was able to get this done for the school."
Thank you so much, Brandon and all those who gave generously of their time and effort to help enhance the student experience here at Mesa Verde!
