A Principal's Perspective
Did you know there is a science of happiness? In thinking about this season, did you know that how much gratitude you have in your life contributes to your overall happiness? Watch the video clip below about the science of happiness. Pay close attention to the results at the end of the video.
Amanda Simmons and I attended a workshop on Monday with Eric Jensen. Dr. Jensen is the guru in teaching with the brain in mind. We attended his session, Teaching & Engaging with Poverty in Mind. We started off the workshop thinking and then sharing with someone one thing that we were grateful for and one thing that we were looking forward to that day. We started the day with mindful gratitude and optimism. He proved that we could change our perspective, our outlook about the day just by sharing one expression of gratitude and optimism. What would that be like if we did this each day with our students? What would we experience as a staff and among our students if we purposefully expressed gratitude and shared something optimistic about the day each day? Would we notice? Can we indeed teach our students to hold excitement, wonder, and joy about each day?
As the principal of GP, I am EXTRA thankful for each of you! As you receive your Thankful Turkey, take time to ponder that you are appreciated and we are thankful that you are part of the GP staff. Each day is a day of excitement, wonder, and joy because of each of you sharing your talents, passion, and experiences with not only our students but staff members as well!
