Happy New Year!
We have had a great week back in Kindergarten. We are ready for the second half of our school year with your families. The children were so excited to be back together again and share about their winter break. We continue to use our Caring School Communities curriculum as a guide to building relationships and sharing our thoughts and feelings at school. We will continue our Leader in the Spotlight each week. We will also meet with our Cross Age Buddies regularly to build our school community. Our classroom buddies are from 3rd grade this year. Here are our buddy classrooms:
Ms Hart´s Class with Mrs. Larkin´s Class
Mrs. Spencer´s Class with Mrs. Skorupski´s Class
Mrs. St. Aubin´s Class with Mrs. Randolph´s Class
Curriculum Updates
Reading Workshop
Book Buddy Bags
Be on the lookout for some information that will be coming home soon about our Take Home Reading program. Every child will get a bag (Book Buddy Bag) and begin checking out leveled books to read each night at home. This is a great way to help them practice all the great things we are learning as readers. We will also provide information on different strategies that you can use with your child that will help them figure out words they don´t yet know. We are always available if you have any questions about how to help your child read at home.
Math Workshop
In our next math unit, your child will:
*Explore even numbers as doubles
*Add 1 and subtract 1 to numbers from 1 to 10
*Compare and order numbers from 1 to 10
*Write equations to show sums up to 5
We will be focusing more on how to write numbers. In Kindergarten, it is common for students to reverse letters or numbers.
Q: My child writes some numbers backward. Should I be concerned?
A: Kindergarteners are just learning to form their numbers correctly. For many, the hand-eye coordination necessary to look at a number (or letter) and write it with a pencil or marker is still developing. Some children may not realize that the orientation of the number is important. If your child reverses a number, kindly point to the number and show them how to form the numeral correctly.

Learning Feedback Document
We are so excited to share with you the wonderful growth that your child has made! January will bring your child's first Learning Feedback Document (LFD). This document is to help you understand how your child is progressing within curricular areas. Teachers are spending time observing and talking with children about their learning. The LFD will be sent home on January 24th. Please let us know if you have any questions! We are very proud of our Kindergartners!
Seesaw Learning Portfolio
Thank you for logging into Seesaw and creating an account so that you can view your child's Learning Portfolio. We will continue adding to their portfolio throughout this next semester. This is a great way to connect you to our classroom and your child's individual learning.
If you have not yet been able to view your child's Learning Portfolio, please contact your child's teacher. We would love to help you! Their portfolio is meant to support you in understanding their learning this year. It accompanies the Learning Feedback Document and serves to tell another part of their learning story.
High Frequencey Words- At Home Learning
We are continuing our study of High Frequency Words. Also known as ¨snap words¨. These words are found often within books, especially the pattern books that we are reading in class. They are also words that help children as they learn to write. We will be reviewing these words in class. Since repetition helps when memorizing these words, it would be great if you could also practice at home! Please let us know if you would like another copy of our words.
