Benji and Zulema Bewley share a moment with Artistrator E.B. Lewis at the McAllen Book Festival
Mr. Lewis was one of the keynote presenters at the McAllen Book Festival on November 8th. E.B. Lewis is dyslexic, and as a child he had a speech impediment. He stuttered. "I was retained in 3rd grade and by the 6th grade I was such a behavior problem that my parents sent my three younger siblings to an elementary school across town to avoid association with me." His uncle started driving from New Jersey to Pennsylvania every Saturday morning to take him to art classes. "He saved my life." Now, Mr. Lewis is a world reknown artist and a sought after children's book illustrator. He is the recipient of the Coretta Scott King and Caldecott awards. He has illustrated more than 70 books. His work is on display in six galleries nationally and internationally. EB Lewis impressed on adults at his presentation the importance of tapping into the passion of children and focusing in on their gift to inspire them to success!
