OCTOBER 5, 2022 - NEWSLETTER
Hello to our Northpoint Families,
We had such fun last week celebrating homecoming! Thank you to our families and staff for supporting our kiddos in demonstrating their Panther Pride. Dress up days were so much fun and many of our friends enjoyed attending the football game Friday night!
This past Monday evening, Rachel Cathey, our new performing arts teacher, shared information about her class with our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). It was fun to hear what the kids are learning, and I can attest firsthand as to how much they are enjoying performing arts. Take a look at the presentation she shared for further insights!
We have a lot going on this week and the coming weeks. Please take note:
- Family Curriculum Night is tomorrow! I hope you can join us tomorrow, Oct. 6 for our Family Curriculum event. We will be welcoming families from 5-7 p.m.. Please refer to the schedule homeroom teachers have shared for specific details.
- Fun Run is Friday. On Friday, our PTO is hosting the annual Fun Run. Our students look forward to this event every year. Thank to you everyone involved with the planning and supervision and to those who contributed to this fundraiser.
- MAP assessments: All students in grades K-10 will be taking an assessment called Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) in the coming weeks to get a more up-to-date picture of where they are at in reading and math. These have started at Northpoint and will conclude on Oct. 25. Please refer to your weekly newsletters from teacher to learn the exact dates for your students.
- Conferencing opportunities: Ongoing partnership with families is so important. As part of ongoing communication between classroom and home, we are looking forward to having an opportunity to connect in-person or online with families during conferences. We have earmarked the afternoon and evening of Tuesday, October 18 and the morning and afternoon of Wednesday, October 19 for conferences at Northpoint. In addition, teachers will be working with families to schedule alternative times as needed for in person or online conferences. As a reminder, students will be on fall break the week of Oct. 17-21.
We hope to see you Thursday evening for the Curriculum Night and at the Fun Run on Friday! Enjoy this beautiful fall evening!
Best,
Judi Kahoun
Principal

Building the future - in our parking lot
A house is rising in the parking lot of Spring Lake Park High School. More than 40 students in the new Construction Trades course are spending a few hours a day on the real-world, hands-on learning experience. Next spring, a completed one-level, two-bedroom home will be moved into our community.
High school teacher Scott Wicklund is leading the year-long project. He will be helped by many experts in the field through on-site work, tours and learning at local businesses. The goal is to expose students to the different trade options and have some fun while also helping them find a potential career path after graduation.
The Construction Trades course is part of the Technology, Engineering and Design Pathway. It will also include elements from our other two pathways at Spring Lake Park High School. Read more online.
Northpoint kindergarten students use the strategy of Think Pair Share in many areas of their learning. It's a creative way for each student to be able to share their ideas with others.
