"Where it's always a great day to be a Bison!"

A Note from Ms. Marlatt

Welcome to January and a brand new year! 2023 is on its way, and so is the fun and learning at Second Creek.

January is a good month to create new routines, clean clutter and set new intentions for the year. It would be great if we could all make this new year's resolution to seek perfect attendance. What could your student accomplish if he or she were it school on time everyday? How can we help you make sure your student is at school on time and everyday? We are ready to partner with you!

As you take a few minutes to read our newsletter, I ask that you pay special attention to our big event coming up in February. For the first time, we will be doing a One School-One Book event at Second Creek. We hope you dedicate time at home to read the book and join us in the fun. Please see more information below.

It is exciting to be back!

Thank you for sharing your children with us!

Ana Marlatt

This Week at Second Creek

One School - One Book Month-Long Event

We are very excited about an upcoming event that all students at Second Creek get to participate: One School - One Book! This year we decided on the book Hooper Finds a Family. All students and staff (PK-5th Grade) will receive a copy of the book to read and keep. This has been made possible by generous donations from ColdStone Creamery and 5280 Realty.

What is One School - One Book?

  • An event to encourage the joy of reading!
  • Reading will take place at home everyday.
  • Recordings of staff members reading the different chapters will be available so everyone will be able to access the reading.
  • Fun and simple home activities will translate into drawings for prizes at school.
  • We are teaming up with Soul Dog Animal Rescue for a service project to benefit the organization.

All details are shared below. The calendar will give you access to documents with even more details. Just click on the hyperlinks in order to learn more.

We hope you join us for this fun event! READERS TODAY, LEADERS TOMORROW!

One School One Book Calendar of Events

Our last classroom party for the year will take place on 2/14/23. Please check with your classroom teacher about specific details. Only pre-registered families will be able to join the party. This is our way of ensuring that our students and staff are safe.

Pre-registration for parties will end on 2/10/23. NO REGISTRATIONS WILL TALE PLACE THE DAY OF THE PARTY. Please come by the office with your identification so we can help you register through our system. Maybe you already pre registered for this party when you registered for our Winter celebrations. In this case, you are good to go. You can always call the office to confirm your status. Thank you for helping our students and staff stay safe!

Winter and Recess

Please send your Bison to school with everything they will need to go out to recess (coats, gloves, etc). We are not able to supervise students who can't go to recess due to not having brought a coat to school. Thank you!

Facebook Changes

Did you join the new Facebook page? The other 2 pages have been disabled. Please click below and join our page for information and fun stuff concerning our Bison nation! Once you become a part of our new page, you can post, ask questions and advertise as before. See you there!

PTO - Come be a part of the fun!

Our Parent-Teacher Organization is constantly working on ways to support our school. They plan fun events that help us build a positive culture for adults and students at Second Creek. Come check it out! Our next meeting will be on February 9th, from 5:30 to 6:30pm. Babysitting is provided!

We continue to ask that all families make their best effort to have kids to school on time, and every day. One thing we noticed is that many families take their students out early on Friday. It might not feel like much, but the times your student is missing the learning adds up. I left the chart below here one more time so you can see the affects of missing minutes every week... over the long haul of your child's educational journey. We are a 4-day school week, and every minute matter!

Traffic Reminders

If you are a returning family to Second Creek, you know our parking lot is small and needs special care during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. Thank you for contributing to the overall safety of our staff and students!

If you are a new family to Second Creek, please read the information below carefully. Staff (and sometimes Commerce City police) are out during morning drop off and afternoon dismissal to make sure everyone is safe.

Parents, it is very important that we do not park on the bus lane before or after school. Blocking the bus causes delays that go beyond our school.

Here are a few reminders about our drop off and pick up procedures. You know that Commerce City police pops in once in a while and issue tickets to vehicles that are not following our safety rules... so please make sure you are doing what you can do keep our students and staff safe!

  • No parked cars in the "no parking zone" - which is by the sidewalk from the beginning of the parking lot all the way to the front doors. This is a fire lane and also a bus lane. There is NO PARKING anytime. Only drop off or pick up. We have noticed many cars parked waiting for the school to open in the morning, blocking the bus and causing lines of cars that go all the way outside the parking lot. Please drop off your student and go - no parking.
  • Same rules apply for pick up after school.
  • Students can be dropped off at 7:30am for breakfast eaters and 7:35am for non breakfast eaters. We do not have supervision for students who are dropped off before these times.
  • Students must be picked up at 3:30pm every day. We do not have staff to supervise students after school.
  • Let us know if you need information about our before and after-school program.
  • Please only use the handicap parking if you have a handicap license.
  • The Staff of the Month parking is for staff only at all times.

We appreciate your cooperation!
