THE FLOOD THAT DESTROYED UTTARAKHAND.

Uttarakhand was a beautiful place with mountains and forests.the ganges and yamuna originated from the glaciers of uttarakhand.Uttarakhand was also well known as the land of gods.the badrinath.kedarnath,gangotri and the yamunotri temples was located in Uttarakhand.until the 2013 monsoon resulted in a large flood in Uttarakhand.after the flood ,Uttarakhand was completely destroyed.

REASONS OF THE FLOOD.(NATURAL REASONS)

From 14 to 17 june 2013,uttarakhand and nearby states recievd heavy rainfall.The rainfall was above benchmark,which was above 375 percentage.A multii-day cloudburst centered on the state of uttarakhand caused the devastating floods and landslides.Due to the continuous rainfall the Chorabari glacier melted,resultig in the flooding in the mandakini river.This led to heavy floods near Gobindghat,Kedar Dome,Rudraprayag district,Uttarakhand.

REASONS OF THE FLOOD.(MAN-MADE REASONS)

The true cause of the epic tragedy is growth of tourism,unchecked rapid increase of roads,hotels,shops,and multistory housing in ecologically fragile areas and unplanned construction are the reasons for landslide.Rapid growth of hydroelectricity dams that disrupt water balances also triggered the action of the disaster.More than 220 power and mining projects are running in 14 river valleys in Uttarakhand.Several rivers are being diverted through tunnels for these projects leading to major disasters in the state.Deforestation is also one of the most important factor of the Uttarakhand disaster,which cause frequent landslides.

RELIGIOUS IMPORTANCE OF UTTARAKHAND.

Uttarakhand is a very important state of india in religious activities.consisting of the four major temples in india, it also makes uttarakhand a very important state in hindu pilgrimage.the shiva sculpture in uttarakhand is one of the biggest religious sculptures in india.the sculpture was completely submerged under water during the flood,this proves how big the flood was.

RESCUE OPERATIONS AND STEPS TAKEN BY THE GOVERNMENT AFTER THE FLOOD.

The army,navy,air force,the indo-tibetan border police,border security force,national disaster response force,public works department and local administrations worked together for quick rescue operations.several thousand soilders were deployed for the rescue operations.helicopters were used to rescue people.local people distribute foodto rescued pilgrims near IAF base camp in dharasu.by 21 june 2013,the army had deployed 10.000 soldiers and 11 helicopters.the navy had sent 45 naval divers,and the airforce had deployed 43 aircrafts including 36 helicopters.from 17 to 30 june 2013,theIAF airlifted a total of 18,424 people,flying a total of 2,137 and dropping a total of 3,36,930 kg of relief material and equipment.the prime minister of india took an aerial survey of the affected areas and announced 1000 crore aid package.several state announced financial assistance,uttar pradesh government 25 crore,haryana,maharashtra and delhi governments 10 crores each and governments of tamil nadu,odisha,gujarat,madhya pradesh and chattisgarh 5 crores each.the US ambassador to india extended a financial help of USD 150,000 through the UNITED STATES AGENCY,US announced that they will provide a further financial help of 75,000 US Dollars.
