11/9/2018 Your Weekly Update for Mayfield Intermediate

Veterans Day Assembly!

Mayfield Intermediate School would like to thank our Veterans for their service for our country. Today we had the opportunity to celebrate with our Veterans. Veterans from our local community came to our school and shared stories about their time in the service and why receiving an education is so important. Our Bobcats were outstanding audience members as well and they listened attentively to all our Veterans' stories. We then hosted our Veterans for a breakfast. During the breakfast our 6th grade choir students sang songs and students from Mrs. Heffron's classes interviewed our guests.

One guest, Mr. Hancock, served during World War II. There is a History Channel video depicting his story. Here is one part of his story that he shared with our students.

Thank you to Mrs. Heffron for organizing this wonderful event!

Veterans Day Weekend

Our school division will observe Veterans Day on Monday, November 12, 2018. All schools will be closed for the day. Enjoy the 3-day weekend and be sure to thank a Veteran for their service for our country.

Math Scoot with Ms. Gates' Class

Students participated in an interactive math scoot throughout the cafeteria. They sought out task cards located at various points throughout the room. These task cards required students to identify equivalent fraction, decimal and percent relationships. All students were highly engaged and shared that it was a fun way to do math. They are already asking when is the next one!

Operation Turkey

Mayfield Intermediate will again be participating in Operation Turkey. Operation Turkey is a food drive done by Northern Virginia Family Services (formerly SERVE) and their goal is to provide Thanksgiving meals to families in need for Manassas and Prince William County. ALL DONATIONS STAY LOCAL! Many families in Manassas City Public Schools, including here at Mayfield, will receive food from this program.
