It's No Joke!
Happy April Fool’s Day! It’s no joke that Imlay Elementary has absolutely the best staff in the world! Over the last two days, all of the teachers and assistants have sharpened their technology skills and set up online classrooms. They have called families and connected remotely with each other. The fabulous culture and climate of Imlay has shined bright in these odd times!
Stay healthy and we miss you!
Jen McCalley
Principal, Imlay Elementary
The information below is for April 1-12, 2020
Connecting
Connecting:
We have been working diligently to reach every Imlay household and provide information verbally and conduct a short survey. *Please note: Each household will only receive one phone call.* In an effort to provide our teachers time to get ready to teach virtually, we divided up class lists, siblings, etc., and tried to reach each household. If you have not spoken to an Imlay Elementary staff member, please call the office on April 1st between 8:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Imlay Elementary’s phone number is 503-844-1090. Please leave a voicemail if someone does not answer and we will return your call.
Imlay Office Hours:
After April 1st, we will not have office staff at school, rather they will be working remotely. If you need anything, please call the office and leave a message. We will be checking messages frequently and will return your call.
Odd Phone Numbers:
Since Imlay staff is all working remotely, when we call Imlay families we will be using Google Meets Voice Calling. When this rings on your phone, it either comes up as a Google Meet or a Google Hangout call OR says it is a phone call from New York, New York. If you have a spam phone number blocker turned on your phone, this may be blocking our calls.
Chromebook Pick Up and Wifi Access:
If you do not have technology at home that your student may use to access online learning, please call Imlay Elementary in the morning on April 1st. We will be continuing to check out Chromebooks on a limited basis until 2:30 p.m. Please call for details. It is very important that students have the ability to access online instruction as we move forward. If you do not have wifi/internet access for your student, let your classroom teacher know. We will be working to solve these issues!
Supplemental Learning and Google Classroom:
Each classroom teacher, music, PE, ELD, Special Education and our Counselor have set up Google Classrooms to provide instruction to your students. To access Google Classroom please go to: www.classroom.google.com and click the plus sign in the top right hand corner and select join class. Enter the class code you received in the email from your teacher. If you did not receive a class code, please email your teacher. All teacher emails are available here.
Meet With Your Teacher:
THIS FEATURE WILL NOT BE TURNED "ON" UNTIL APRIL 1, 2020!
Each day teachers will be holding office hours on Google Meet where your student may join a video call and speak directly to other students in their class and with their teacher! We are so excited to “see” each other! During these “office hours” teachers will be answering questions, supporting students and providing additional information. We hope students are able to join these daily. Directions on how to access the private Google Meet for their classroom and the schedule of what time office hours are will be provided in the email from your teacher and/or posted in the Google Classroom. PE, Music, ELD and SPED will also all have times where students may meet with them! Look for their information as well. After reviewing both locations, and if you still have questions, please email your teacher. All teacher email addresses are available here.
Free Breakfast and Lunches Daily--NEW delivery system
Hillsboro School District will be expanding its meal distribution system beginning on April 1, 2020, and continuing through April 28, 2020, using a bus delivery model. Meals are for all children ages 1-18. There will be 22 different routes, based on elementary activity routes. These routes will cover attendance areas of all HSD elementary schools. Even if you do not see your school listed, there should be a bus stop at or near your school that you can access. Route information that pertains to each school will also be posted in the front window of the school for your reference. There is limited time at each stop. Please be present at the assigned time, maintain appropriate social distance, grab your lunch, and head home. Please do not crowd the bus entrance or one another.

What Happens After April 12, 2020?
New direction from the Oregon Department of Education (delivered today) states that teachers will begin online instruction of NEW material on April 13, 2020. Instruction will include attendance, assignments and grading of assignments. Between now and April 12th, it is important to work out all the kinks in accessing education remotely for your students. We are here to support you! More information will be coming about what school will look like after April 12, 2020.
We LOVE our Imlay Community:
