School Guidance Program
Parents,
Over the course of the following week, I will be conducting a needs assessment to help guide the school counseling program. The data collected will be used to determine the topics in upcoming guidance lessons, small group interventions, and other supportive programs. Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. Your honest responses to all questions will be most helpful to us as we review and evaluate the effectiveness of the Guidance and Counseling Program at South Shades Crest Elementary. All responses will be kept confidential and used to improve our program.

Go Gold Day, Give Hope:
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and we plan to show our support here at SSC on September 20th! Were you aware that:
-1 in 300 children will be diagnosed with cancer by age 21.
-More than 150 children are diagnosed with cancer each year in Alabama.
-Over 500 children undergo cancer treatments each year in Alabama.
-80% of children diagnosed with cancer will be cured of their illness, compared to less than 50% just two decades ago.
-Only 4% of federal funding for cancer research is directed towards childhood cancer as a whole.
Childhood cancer is a grossly underfunded and overlooked disease, even though it is the leading cause of disease-related death in children and adolescents. Give Hope Day on September 20th gives administrators, staff, teachers, parents, and children the chance to recognize and honor those who have battled childhood cancer as well as raise awareness. Have your child wear yellow/gold on this day to show support for childhood cancer! Because awareness leads to funding and funding leads to cures! #givehope (You can also visit hopeforautumnfoundation.org for more information)
