Winter Party Recap

What a blast! The party was a hit! The kids enjoyed making a snowman, decorating cookies, and playing marshmallow games. I must say, it was quite a celebration! Thank you to all the parents that came and helped out. You are much appreciated! I also want to thank everyone for the thoughtful gifts. I cannot tell you enough how grateful I am to have such wonderful, supportive families to work with! I am very blessed this year!

High Fives

Students brought home their Problem Solving Notebooks on Thursday, December 19th. I hope they took you on a tour of their work! Please fill out the High Five form and have the journals back in class on Friday, December 20th so we can continue learning.

The Spotlight Stallion for the week is Rigna Bachuwala! Have fun with Peter in India over the break, Rigna!

Watch Dog Dad

Laila's Dad came to help out on the last day of school before the break. Thanks for all yoru help, Mr. Johnson!

What We Will Be Learning About This Week...

Reading and Writing

Get ready to dive into some serious culture study! For the next few weeks, our students will be researching through Culture Grams (online resource), different cultural traditions from around the world. Each day, our class will focus on one country’s customs, fill out anchor charts, read various fiction and non-fiction books and develop an All About book on a favorite culture of study.

This week we will begin our review and exploration of fractions. This unit will be three weeks long and we’ll start by deciding fair shares then focus on halves, fourths, and eighths using a variety of models. While this seems quite simple, students are sometimes unsure of how to create the most efficient model of a fraction when asked.

This week we will explore parts of speech, specifically nouns and pronouns.

Word Study

Students will receive new spelling sorts this week. We will glue and have a spelling quiz on January 17th over the words received today.
