Announcing the 2nd annual Ezra Jack Keats Bookmaking Contest!
Hello!
The Grady Writing Center is participating in the second annual Atlanta Ezra Jack Keats Bookmaking Contest. Students are invited to submit an original children’s picture book for a chance to win a school wide competition, in which first, second and third place winners get $100, $75 and $50 prizes respectively. The first place winner goes on to compete in the Atlanta competition, in which the winner receives $500!
I am hoping you will tell your students about the contest and encourage them to participate. If you can offer extra credit or some other incentive for them to participate, that would be all the better!
I will personally help the students conceptualize their books at a workshop on Thursday, Dec. 13, and in early January, we will have both a professional illustrator and bookmaker conduct workshops to help participants complete their books.
The deadline for book entries is January 19, 2018. Students MUST RSVP at gradywritingcenter@gmail.com or to me, Denene Millner, my co-director, Nick Chiles, or Mrs. Taft in the Media Center.
Poetry Contest
The Grady Writing Center is making a special appeal to our incredible teachers to have your students participate in our annual POETRY CONTEST. Students can write about any topic of their choice.
First prize is $80. Second prize is $40. And third prize is $20. Plus, winners will have their work published in an upcoming issue of The Unmasking.
Each poet is limited to two entries; three-line minimum, 35-line maximum. Please have students submit two copies (one with name, one without name) to gradywritingcenter@gmail.com or to Denene Millner or Nick Chiles in the Writing Center. The deadline is December 15th at 11:59 p.m.
Thank you for helping Grady students express themselves through this beautiful genre!
