Too Many Musicals? An alternative?
The 2013 Musicals season in York starts with the touring production of the new musical Dolly Parton 9 - 5 at the Grand Opera House and no doubt others will follow at the Grand Opera House.
York Stage Musicals start the amateur 2013 Musicals season in York with Miss Saigon (under 19's) at Joseph Rowntree Theatre; 22nd Feb - 3rd Mar.York Light Opera follow this with their production of Oliver! at the Theatre Royal; 5th Mar - 16th Mar.
As we can see from the booking schedule there are then a number of musicals being performed at Joseph Rowntree Theatre.
Whilst we can be one of the first opening on 9th April with Me and My Girl and this is traditionally a better month than May with bookers do we want to consider a non-musical alternative?
Paul has previously mentioned that we might want to consider Amadeus. Amadeus was first presented at the Royal National Theatre, London in 1979, directed by Sir Peter Hall and starring Paul Scofield as Salieri, Simon Callow as Mozart, and Felicity Kendal as Constanze. It was later transferred in modified form to the West End, starring Frank Finlay as Salieri.
