Joseph Rowntree Theatre - Spring 2013

I've been in contact with the JRT Hirer and the week we discussed at the Executive Committee on Thursday - i.e. Sunday 28th April - Saturday 4th May isn't available as there is already a booking on 4th May.

Moreover there are a lot of bookings and very few weeks available to us:

Sunday 7th April - Saturday 13th April: Available and being held for us

Sunday 14th April - Saturday 20th April: Booked for a musical, might be John Hall's new group?

Sunday 21st April - Saturday 27th April: Booked by New Earswick Musical Society for a musical

Sunday 28th April - Saturday 4th May: Not available as Saturday 4th May already booked

Sunday 5th May - Saturday 11th May: Has Bank Holiday Monday in it

Sunday 12th May - Saturday 18th May: York Stage Musicals - Whistle Down the Wind

Sunday 19th May - Saturday 25th May: Booked

Sunday 26th May - Saturday 1st June: Has Bank Holiday Monday in it

Sunday 2nd June - Saturday 8th June: Complete week not available

Sunday 9th June - Saturday 15th June: Complete week not available

Sunday 16th June - Saturday 22nd June: Complete week not available

Sunday 23rd June - Saturday 29th June: Complete week not available

Me and My Girl

Samuel French Ltd have confirmed that we can book the rights to perform Me and My Girl in York Spring 2013.

Please note this is not for general announcement until we have official confirmation - we must submit formal application - will probably take 14 days.

Too Many Musicals? An alternative?

The 2013 Musicals season in York starts with the touring production of the new musical Dolly Parton 9 - 5 at the Grand Opera House and no doubt others will follow at the Grand Opera House.

York Stage Musicals start the amateur 2013 Musicals season in York with Miss Saigon (under 19's) at Joseph Rowntree Theatre; 22nd Feb - 3rd Mar.

York Light Opera follow this with their production of Oliver! at the Theatre Royal; 5th Mar - 16th Mar.

As we can see from the booking schedule there are then a number of musicals being performed at Joseph Rowntree Theatre.

Whilst we can be one of the first opening on 9th April with Me and My Girl and this is traditionally a better month than May with bookers do we want to consider a non-musical alternative?

Paul has previously mentioned that we might want to consider Amadeus. Amadeus was first presented at the Royal National Theatre, London in 1979, directed by Sir Peter Hall and starring Paul Scofield as Salieri, Simon Callow as Mozart, and Felicity Kendal as Constanze. It was later transferred in modified form to the West End, starring Frank Finlay as Salieri.

York Musical Theatre Company

York Musical Theatre Company was founded in 1902 under its former name York Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society. One of the leading amateur companies in York we hold open auditions for all our shows and new members are also welcome.
