Celebrate the JC Class of 2020!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are planning a special ceremony, along with some other virtual surprises, to acknowledge our very important fifth grade students moving on to middle school on June 12th. We are heartbroken that our students were unable to experience their last few months at Julian Curtiss, but we will do our best to plan a very special day for our students. In order to make the day more festive, we will have staff members in attendance, we will have music and banners with pictures of the students, and we hope you will decorate your cars. We will make the most of our situation and send our students off with virtual hugs and good wishes even if they are from six feet away. The day will be what we make of it and the staff plans on making it a happy occasion!
The ceremony will take place with families in their cars. Staff will be on the baseball field on the side of the gym. Staff members will wear masks and be standing 6-8 ft apart. Cars should enter from the Millbank Circle and come up the side driveway into the car pick up loop on the field side of the building. Do NOT enter from Elm Street into the front circle. We will have each car pull up (similar to car pickup at the end of the day) and have the student’s name announced. Each student will receive a certificate and a Julian Curtiss Goodie Bag!
Due to the current restrictions, the following is necessary:
Each car with a student should have the student’s name in the window so that we announce the name of the student when the car arrives at the crosswalk.
All students and families MUST stay in their car. Everyone should have masks in case they are talking out of the windows of the car. Students may NOT ride on top of cars or in the bed of pickup trucks. There will be no need to get out of the car.
The line is limited to one car per family except in the case of families who are co-parenting and cannot be in the same car. In this case, the two cars should enter the circle one behind the other. We will not allow cars for grandparents or other guests.
There will be a plan for families that do not have cars. If you are walking, there will be a line in front of the building and the child will cross the crosswalk and then proceed back out of the front circle. We ask if a car is possible to please use this option.
We realize that families would like to have grandparents and important family members present but we ask that you adhere to the guidelines in order to keep everyone safe. We will try and have someone video the event and send it to parents.
The schedule is as follows:
9:00 am - Fabion
10:00 am - Stewart
11:00 am - O’Connor
Please do not come before your scheduled time. I know it would be more celebratory to have the entire grade level together, but we are trying to acknowledge the students and offer some fun in a safe and controlled environment. The building will be off-limits and restrooms will not be available.
