Bullets and Ballots Simulation

What groups were involved, who had power?

The peasants, guerillas, United States, the Guatemalan Government, and the army and wealthy were the groups involved in the simulation. The army and wealthy were the groups with the most mus. Even though the peasants didn’t have any msu, they still would have the most power when it comes to an election. The peasants have the most power during an election because they get a double vote when voting for who they want to elect into the government. I think the US and the Guatemalan government had the least power overall.

How the balance of power shifted and why?

The power shifted between the army and the wealthy and the guerillas. Those two groups were the groups with the most power in the beginning and remained that way. The United States tended to give msu to the army and wealthy the most. The US gave msu to the army and the wealthy instead of the guerrillas because they didn’t agree with what the guerrillas might have done if they had the most power.

How was cooperation and conflict shown in the game?

The guerrillas and army and wealthy fought against each other every month. Plenty of treaties were made but they were also sometimes broken. Some treaties were made between the government and the peasants, the peasants and the guerrillas, and the army and the wealthy and the United States. The army and the wealthy and the United States worked together a lot and I think that dramatically helped the army and wealthy keep the most power and win the game.

What role did the US have on the simulation?

The US had a large role in the game. The US gave a lot of their msu to the army and the wealthy and they gave some to the peasants. In my opinion, this then lead to the army and wealthy keeping the most power and winning the game.

Wha happens to a country when power shifts, is the effect positve or negative?

When the power shifts in a country, the effect can be positive and negative. Sometimes, the group with the most power will make decisions for the good of the country. And sometimes, a group may only be considering how their decisions will affect a certain group of people. But other times, the group with the most power only considers how their decisions will affect themselves and no one else.

How this simulation can be related to real life.

  1. a. I think families are a good example of how this game can relate to real life. The parents have the most power and other people have the lower amounts of power. Even though the parents have the most power, sometimes the kids are able to negotiate and compromise on what they want, and sometimes the parents will change their minds.

1. b. When people are working on a group project together, the people in the group always have their own roles. But when people are working together in a project, they need to agree with each other. Sometimes, not everyone will get what they want, but a lot of the time, the decisions are made for the good of the projects.
