Some important information for this week....

Labour Disruption

Due to a province wide withdrawal of services by all teachers unions, Kawartha Heights will be closed to students on Friday, February 21st. Please continue to monitor our school website, Edsby, Twitter, Instagram and the board website for any new information as it becomes available.

Communicating with your child's teacher

With the labour disruption, there have been many calls to the office about whether parents can contact their child's teacher for a variety of different reasons. Director Jennifer Leclerc stated the following in her letter to the KPR community on January 22nd:

"While report cards are not being distributed, teachers’ assessment and evaluation of student progress will continue throughout the year. Teachers will continue to communicate with families about their children’s education. If you have any concerns about your child’s learning or well-being, please contact your teacher”.

Recess Guardians

We are thrilled to let you know that we will officially be launching our Recess Guardian leadership program on Tuesday! Each morning and afternoon recess on both the main yard and the kindergarten yard, 3 to 5 Grade 4/5/6 Recess Guardians will be supporting fun games for our younger students. They will be wearing bright blue vests and they’ve been working so hard to learn and understand how to teach games to younger students. We are so proud of the leadership role these students have taken on and look forward to sharing their new adventures with you in the near future.

Drop Off/Pick Up Thank You

We wanted to take a minute to thank all parents and guardians for helping us SO much during drop off and pick up time. Thank you for respecting the bus loading zone, and for using both the back parking lot and neighbouring side streets to ensure these busy times of day are much safer for our students. It's made a HUGE difference!

Kindergarten Registration

Families: now’s the time to register your child for Kindergarten! If your child will turn four before the end of December, make sure you register online at www.kprschools.ca/kindergarten

We also encourage you to take advantage of the Kindergarten Information Session to be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10 – Otonabee Valley PS, 580 River Rd. S., Peterborough

The sessions are free, and pre-registration is required, to ensure sufficient take-home resources for every participating family. The evening will offer you a peek into the Kindergarten classroom and give you resources to help prepare your child for school. You also will be able to meet with community agencies and partners that serve families in your area.

If Internet access is a problem for you, give us a call at the school and we’ll be glad to outline the Kindergarten registration process for you.

STSCO Special Bussing Permission

If you require special bussing for daycare/sitter or out of boundary for September 2020, now is the time to submit your request! Please see the information below.

Just one more thing.....

Our world revolves around technology...whether we like it or not. We often have questions about social media and how parents can support their children in using it wisely and safely. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing information and tips to help you navigate this area. We hope you find them useful!
