Grandparent's Day - September 15, 2017
Grandparents and other older adults can be very important people in children’s lives. Children feel a sense of pride and accomplishment when they know that people in their extended family and community are interested in their education. So, we’re having a special celebration! “Grandparents and Grandfriends Day” recognizes the importance of our heritage, our community, and relationships across generations.
We’re inviting grandparents of our students on Friday, September 15th, to Symmes Elementary for this special celebration. Your child’s teacher will be sending the schedule of events and an RSVP request home today so that we can acquire an accurate count of people who are planning to attend.
This event is intended for children and their grandparents/step-grandparents or a special “grandfriend.” Since our space is limited, parents and siblings will not be able to attend this particular event nor will they be able to stay for lunch.
We understand that all children do not have grandparents, and that some grandparents will be unable to attend. We encourage these children to bring another special older adult – a family friend, another relative such as an aunt or uncle, or a neighbor. Some children are also happy to share their grandparent with a classmate. If you have questions about who to invite, please talk with your child’s teacher.
If your child has a grandparent who cannot attend the event, please ask him/her to write a note to the grandchild and place it in a sealed envelope for the child to open and read on “Grandparents and Grandfriends Day.” Grandparents can mail the note directly to the school or pass it along through you. “Grandparents and Grandfriends Day” is a special day for both young and old. Thank you for your cooperation in making this event a success and a positive, memorable experience for your child.

SPANISH CLASSES
Exposing your child to a second language is one of the most valuable gifts you can give your child. Here is why:
- Higher scores on the SAT: Students who study a foreign language for four or more years tend to score higher on the verbal section of the SAT.
- Higher grades in high school: Foreign language classes are a requirement for colleges and universities; learning Spanish early on will make high school Spanish so much easier, ensuring higher grades.
- It enhances reading ability in English: Starting a second language early enhances reading abilities and general literacy in the first language. Children also demonstrate better focus and multitasking skills.
Children will study Spanish vocabulary through fun games, songs, hands-on activities, etc. Cultural activities like Salsa Dance Classes, celebration of “El Día de los Muertos”, etc. will be also available during the year for parents as well!
Fall Session: Option of Tuesdays or Wednesdays 8:05 to 9:05 am starting September 19.
Grades: K- 4th
Cost: $74 for a 7-week session per student, 20% discount for the second sibling, third sibling attends at no cost! Classes require textbooks, an approximate one-time fee of $28 additional for the year.
TO REGISTER: contact World of Spanish at (513) 739-9516 and register online at World of Spanish
