Dear BCS Community,
Monday was another great Winter Activities day at Burke and Craftsbury Outdoor Center. The kids had a great time in the sunshine. Things are going great in the building as well: we are through the January assessments (the numbers look promising, more later), our middle school basketball teams are playing well, we held a wonderful Awards Assembly, and students have been showcasing their learning and skills at our weekly Bear Cave Whole School Meeting.
The application for school choice for FY23 has been updated and put on the OCSU website here: https://www.ocsu.org/school-choice.html. If you are interested in choice, I would love a chance to hear more about that; please give me a call if you don't mind.
Here's to a great couple weeks before the Winter vacation (starts after school on February 18). Thanks for sending us your kids - we love them.
Please reach out by email at lfliegelman@ocsu.org or leave a voicemail at extension 100, 754-8467 with any questions. Thank you again for your cooperation and keeping our school community safe.
Sincerely,
Larry Fliegelman

VPA Updates for Athletes
The Vermont Principals' Association has updated their winter sports guidance based on the newest COVID-19 guidance. It's more restrictive for unvaccinated players than it was before. Prior to these changes, unvaccinated players enrolled in Test to Stay could complete their test to stay and then could compete in games. Depending on when the school found out about the exposure, Test to Stay could have been anywhere from two to five days. The newest VPA guidance says the following:
Athletes who test positive
- Cannot participate in any way, whether symptomatic or not until a minimum of 5 days have passed and
- Have tested negative on 2 antigen tests, don't have symptoms, and have been cleared by a physician to play
- Can continue to practice and play as long as they don't have any symptoms
- Should be tested 5 days after the exposure took place
Unvaccinated students who are exposed
- Should continue to attend school and practices, as long as they are not symptomatic
- Must test negative for five consecutive days before participating in games
Masks must be worn by athletes, coaches, and volunteers at all times during both practices and games.
Winter Activities
Winter activities are scheduled for Mondays and they will be on the following dates: February 7th, and February 14th, with two back up dates. Students in grades 3 to 8 have chosen to either attend Burke Mountain or Craftsbury Outdoor Center. Craftsbury students will depart around 8:15 returning by noon. Burke Mountain students will depart by 9:30 am returning by 3:15 pm.
K-2 students will stay at the school for their activities.
