November Newsletter
Walt Morey Middle School
Happy Thanksgiving!
I want to begin by wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving holiday and to express my gratitude to the Walt Morey community for their ongoing support of our teachers and our school. We appreciate your partnership as we work together to educate our students in unprecedented ways. Although our celebrations this year may look much different than in years past, I hope you all still find time to relax and enjoy the company of loved ones. And for those of you who may be struggling financially this season, please know that the staff at Walt Morey is ready and eager to help. You may apply for a holiday food basket through Sunshine Division using this link: https://sunshinedivision.org/get-help/. Or for further financial assistance with bills, housing, and other needs, you can reach out to our social worker Krystal McCarthy by emailing her at krmccarthy@rsd7.net.
Second Quarter Electives
Grades and Conferences
Last Friday was the end of the first quarter and teachers are working hard to finalize grades. All students should receive a report card in the mail before the end of next week. However, you can stay current with your student’s progress by checking ParentVue on a regular basis. If you need help setting up your account, please email Leslie Hodges at lhodges@rsd7.net. Or you can drop in for live tech support during conferences next week by using this link: Family Tech Support
Next week, we will be holding our second round of fall conferences. One of your child’s core academic teachers should have already sent you a link to sign up. If you need help signing up for an appointment, please watch the following tutorial that we sent out in October:
During November conferences, you will be meeting with your child’s homeroom, language arts/social studies, math/science, and enrichment teacher at the same time. Unlike October Conferences, our November conferences will be student led. The purpose for this format is to empower students to take accountability for their own learning outcomes. Students should be able to explain their strengths and weaknesses as a student and their goals to improve or maintain their grades during second quarter.
We will not be holding individual conferences for PE or electives, as all students are transitioning to new courses and teachers this week. Instead, our PE and electives department will be hosting information sessions where you can meet the new teacher and learn about the expectations and curriculum in class and how these courses will be instructed online.
