Principally Speaking

Thank you for attending your child’s recent parent-teacher conference. We strive for 100% participation because we know how important it is for your child’s success that we work together on his or her behalf. During Parent-Teacher Conference time, we work hard to make sure important information is shared and all questions are answered. If you were unable to attend Parent-Teacher Conferences, and you still really need to speak with your student's teachers, please call to set up another time to meet. We will make the time to assist you.

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.

Cold Weather & Recess Attire - 5th and 6th Graders

As it gets colder, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather on the bus stop and for going out to recess. Remember that predicted afternoon high temperatures are often much warmer than the actual temperatures at recess time. Please be sure to send your child to school with a coat and maybe a hat and gloves.

Background Checks Required for Volunteers: See Details Below

Individuals who may have direct, ongoing contact with children at DCMS must complete our volunteer application which includes a Level 1 Criminal History Check. This is for activities such as chaperoning a field trip or working with individual students or small groups of students. This is not necessary for anyone wanting to have lunch with their student or to make copies for teachers.

  • The background check will cost $12.95 for most of our volunteers. There may be an additional cost if records must be checked in another state.
  • DO NOT SEND MONEY into SCHOOL.
  • This check is good for two years.

STEPS TO COMPLETE VOLUNTEER APPLICATION:

  1. Complete a Volunteer Application Form

and turn it into the school office (required annually). If you have multiple children, turn the form in at youngest child’s school.

  2. The school will then send you the link for submitting your background check application via email along with further instruction. (Please be prepared to pay online for your application fee, as you will be responsible for cost at the time of online submission.)
  3. You will receive an email notification once the background check has been returned. At that time you will either be cleared and approved by the administration to volunteer or you will be notified that there is an issue that prevents you from volunteering.
  4. Results will be maintained and tracked at a district level. All schools will have access to the volunteer database and will be able to verify a cleared background check.
  5. Volunteer Application Form must be completed annually, but Level I Volunteer Background Check is good for two years.
