Staff Newsletter for 2016-2017, Episode 4

Thank you all for a wonderful October! In our recent parent newsletter I spent some time summarizing the opportunities all of you have worked so hard to provide our students in the last month. It was a reminder of how dedicated you are as a team to providing experiences for our students that they will remember for a lifetime. Your dedication to them as individuals is inspiring and makes our work worthwhile.

The quote I chose this month is inspired by your service and the truth about the children and families we serve. The ones that break our hearts are the very ones that inspire us to give our all every single day. Earlier today I spent an extended amount of time with one of our "tough" little guys. I found myself determined to find a way to reach him and to soften the hardness in his eyes. While I had a million other things to do I spent a good deal of my day learning about beavers with him and watching him soften a little and enjoy learning. It was a reminder of what you all dedicate your lives to each and every day. We are grateful for you and your service to our students and families. Keep your smile and find your inspiration in your "tough" cases.

We love you all!

The Leader in Me: Habit #1 - Be Proactive

For the month of November, I have included a link to the Leader in Me Guide for parents in the parent newsletter. We also introduced Habit #1 which is the most important of the habits. It lays the foundation for all of the other habits. I would ask between now and the Christmas holidays that you and your team intentionally plan to incorporate this habit into your instruction and begin to look for students that display this habit. We will focus on this conversation during our November Faculty Learning. In the meantime, check out this link with lesson plan ideas and literature related to being proactive by clicking here.

Classroom walkthroughs and evaluations are continuing. When you are scheduled for your preconference, please be sure to come prepared to discuss the lesson that will be observed the following week. Once the written observation is complete your scheduled appraiser will schedule a post-observation conference with you.

When walkthroughs are completed you will receive a notification email. At that time, please login to DMAC to review your walkthrough and digitally sign the document. Individual goals will be discussed when summative conferences are held at the end of the year.
