VOGELTOWN SCHOOL
TE KURA O HUATOKI. WEEK 5 TERM 1 2019
SCHOOL GOAL: FRIENDSHIPS
Being a good friend, making new friends and being a 'Vogeltowner'.
We can do this by:
By showing my friends I care by being kind and respecting their ideas
By speaking up when one of my friends is not nice to another friend
By showing the school value of Manaaki Tangata – Caring for the people
By allowing new friends to join in with our games
KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
Most of our student assessment has been completed by today. These assessments are designed and selected to help us plan for students learning goals, teacher planning and to help us gauge how our teaching and learning is developing at Vogeltown. We do not just use assessments to ascertain how a student is progressing, but an 'overall teacher judgement' - these assessments being just one tool. These teacher judgements will be shared with you at our learning conferences in the last week of this term and with our progress reports. Watch this space for booking learning conferences in the next couple of weeks.
A huge thanks to all the parents who helped with camp - staying over, transporting the kids, and helping with the groups. The camp has been highly successful again, even with a wet day! Massive thanks to Mr Ransfield and his team for all the organisation, planning and dedication to the school with this camp. It was Miss Bleasdale and Mr Bishop's first ever school camp as teachers - they will sleep well tonight! Thanks team and well done.
Teacher Paid Union Meetings
The teachers will be attending 'Union Meetings' on the 20th and 21st of March. These meetings are being held at Devon Intermediate and Highlands Intermediate at 1.30pm on these days. We will not be closing the school on these days - however we will be having 'split classes' and an afternoon 'singing assemblies' for an hour on these days finishing at the normal time.
Thanks for your support of the school and the teaching team over these two days. We hope these negotiations will help to find a solution for the teaching profession and for the education of our tamariki.
CLASSROOM WORK AT VOGELTOWN
JOIN THE VOGELTOWN BOARD OF TRUSTEES?
If you have never thought about being on the BOT, then now might be the time! It is a great position and an important one to help with the direction and governance decisions of the school.
If you might be keen, please contact Mike Miners, our current Chairperson who would be more than happy to chat with you. Mr Ogle is also available to have a chat.
There is also an NZSTA hui coming up about being on a school BOT if you want to know more - see the details below.
WELCOME TO VOGELTOWN
Akelia Roycroft (Rm 3), Peyton Hodgson (Rm 3) and Tawhe Patene (Rm 3).
Mrs Newland's class is beginning to grow as new enrolments come in to Vogeltown. If you know of any families who may be bringing their kids to Vogeltown and have not enrolled, please ask them to see Mr Ogle or Mrs Newland so we can plan for future classes. Thanks whanau!
VOGELTOWN HOME AND SCHOOL
Well what a wonderful night we had at the school Whanau Fun Fiesta! Thank you to everybody that helped make the night fantastic! We really do appreciate it.
A huge shout out to all that came and supported us buy purchasing dinner and some fun times for the kids:)
It was the first one of this style and now we know it can work we can look at how we could make it better next time. If you have any ideas pls come along to our next meeting on the 7th April at 7.00pm and share your ideas and energy:)
Our total profit was an unexpected $4750 (approx) which has already been donated back to the school.
The money has been divided out between all three syndicates, juniors, middles and seniors. It is so great that we can support them with a little extra to help with resources for our children's learning. Tu Meke!
On that note our home and school every year loses members as children move on to other schools and every year we try and scoop up new families to come along and share this experience. This year we have our AGM in May (date TBC) and will be in need of a new Chairperson and a Secretary. If you have skills in any of these areas and would like to know more email me at katyquest@yahoo.com and I can chat with you. You may just be able to come along to the odd meeting and put your hand up to help at various events like the fun fiesta. We also have a email database we can add you too so you can stay in touch and find out what we are up to. Let us know if thats you on vshomeandschool@gmail.com or contact us on our facebook page :Log in to Facebook | Facebook
Keep a look out for the Easter raffles coming out soon:)
Have fun, take care
