Early Learners Highlights!
December 2, 2022
Dear Early Learners Families,
We hope you and your families enjoyed some quality time together last week. On Monday, we were very excited to welcome back our Early Learners and their magnificent smiles!
Our streak of warm weather seems to have come to an end. Please continue to dress your child appropriately for outdoor play. Our practice is to let students go outside if the temperature/wind chill is 10 degrees or warmer and it is not raining or snowing too hard.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Marcia
The 109 Gives Back Holiday Gift Drive Is Here!
Happy Friday, DPS 109 Families. From the snow we got this week to the lights outside, the Holiday Season is officially here. We are excited to kick off this joyful time with our 109 Gives Back district-wide Holiday Gift Drive!
Wish lists are now LIVE. You can view it by clicking here or scanning the QR code you see on any flyer. Each item will help a local family fulfill their holiday wishes! Make sure to check back in as the list will grow as we hear back from families.
We will have holiday-themed boxes lined up in the lobby of each school between November 28th - December 9th to drop off gifts. If you are bringing gift cards, we ask that you drop them off in the front office.
We are thankful for our generous community and looking forward to making dozens of families’ holidays brighter this year! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact communications@dps109.org.
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN EARLY LEARNERS?
Our teaching team loved being able to see so many of you for parent-teacher conferences last week! We are beyond proud of our Early Learners’ growth over the first trimester. We are excited for the opportunity to further tailor your children’s learning experiences to highlight those “glows” and support those “grow” areas in trimester two! Thank you for partnering with us to make the very most of these important early childhood years, we are lucky to have such engaged parents!
This month we will be learning about Folktales with a specific focus on the “Gingerbread Man” story. Our classes will be acting out a variety of folktales, sequencing story events, answering questions, and exploring the use of rhyme. In math we will take the work we did on shapes and patterning in the first trimester to the next level with differentiated practice opportunities. Our Full Day Pre-K classes have also been exploring early subtraction with partners, which has been a big hit this week! We are looking forward to sprinkling lots of gingerbread magic into a busy next few weeks of learning!
SPEECH WITH MISS NATHANSON
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! This week in speech group we read Winslow The Wondering Walrus. Throughout the story, Winslow wonders his way through the alphabet. Each letter in the alphabet had a sentence that contained words starting with that letter (i.e. “I wonder if bluebirds blow big bubbles”). As we read through the different letters, the students thought about and shared other words that also started with that letter. They did a great job and had a lot of fun thinking of new words!
