Spirit Night and Concessions
Spirit Night will be held from 4-6 this Friday right outside the PSH Football Stadium! Come enjoy all the booths and support all the schools organizations, especially our Spirit of '76 Band! We will be selling Pretzel Boys.
Thank you to all of the people who volunteered to help with Concessions on Friday night! We are looking forward to a fun evening with all of you. I know we are used to working in 100 degree heat on that first game. Sorry to tell you it will only be in the low 80's. I'm sure you're all heartbroken!
Becky Craig
Extra Extra!!!
We need some extra help on Spirit Night. Specifically, adults are needed to help "water" the band during the game. Here's what is needed - 2 people willing to fill/ice water and 3-4 people to help water the band. If you can help, text Taryn Wallace at @ 314-315-6847 for more info.

HOME FOOTBALL GAME GUIDELINES
The schedule and expectations for a home football game are outlined below. SOME HAVE CHANGED.
The Spirit of ‘76 performs at all home football games, which usually occur on Friday nights in August, September, and October. There are normally four or five home games each year.
On game day, the schedule below is followed. Special circumstances may require a change of schedule, which will be announced in advance.
- 4:30 pm Rehearsal on the practice field (rehearsal clothes)
- 5:45 pm Rehearsal ends, eat a snack or “brown bag” dinner; then change into full uniform, unless otherwise instructed
- 6:20 pm Parade block; march to the stadium, and set the horn arc on the field
- 6:45 pm Perform the Star Spangled Banner
- 6:50 pm Move into the stands for the start of the game
REMINDERS:
- Remain in the stands with the band throughout the game.
- Play only on your own instrument, and only when instructed to do so by Mr. Barnes, Mrs. Kinworthy, or the Drum Major. Pay close attention to the directors. You may need to play on very short notice!
- YOU MAY NOT EAT WHILE IN UNIFORM. Eat before the game or in the band room afterwards. Food is not allowed in the band area of the stands. Water will be provided.
- Keep all comments and actions positive when in uniform. Cheer for South High, and represent our school well. Avoid negative comments directed toward others, especially those from the opposing school.
- Sit in the row assigned to your section.
- Only band members are allowed in the band section. Please have your friends sit in the section next to the band.
During the second quarter we leave the stands to warm up for the halftime show.
At halftime, we perform the competition show.
During the third quarter the band members will be allowed to take a short break. They may use the opportunity to rest in the band room and use the restroom.
All band members must be back in the stands by the beginning of the 4th quarter.
After the game, the band performs several pep songs as the crowd clears out of the stadium. Don’t expect to be done before 10:30/11:00 pm.
When dismissed from the stands, band members are expected to:
- Return to the band room without playing.
- Carefully put instruments away in the correct case and storage cabinet.
- Change out of uniform, and hang up uniform neatly.
- Return uniform and garment bag to the appropriate clothing rack.
- Help clean any messy areas of the music area.
- NEW FOR 2017: STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED TOGETHER ONCE ALL INSTRUMENTS, UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT ARE PUT AWAY, AND MUSIC AREAS ARE CLEANED.

Booster Blurb
Updates from the Band Boosters
It was good to see so many Boosters and new parents at Wednesday night rehearsal. Welcome to the band family! Next time you’re up at school, take a peek in the uniform room and see the new uniform racks provided by the Boosters near the end of last season. Competition travel will be greatly improved. Diedre Kroll, Ray Waidmann, and Kurt Leemann have the uniform room cleared out, organized, and looking big.
Thank you to all parents who turned uniform order forms complete and in on time. The bulk order saves the boosters extra cost and helps make our booster volunteer’s efforts a little easier. Thanks Angie Marty!
The season begins! Come sit with the Band Boosters at the football Game Friday night to cheer on the Patriots and our Spirit of “76 Marching Band.
Saturday the Pit and Battery perform at the Mozingo Drumline Competition at Eureka High School. Come out and hear the work they’ve put in on the show! See details here in Spirit Notes and be on the lookout for truck loading and unloading times. We love the help!
