Back to School FAQ
Below are the answers to some frequently asked questions about Back to School this year!
When is the first day of school?
School starts on Wednesday, August 16th at 8:45 am.
When is orientation?
We are hosting student orientation on Tuesday, August 15th from 4-6 pm. Students will pick up their schedules, complete a classroom bingo card by meeting all their teachers, walk through their schedules, and receive their planners. They can also sign up for sports and other activities, purchase spirit wear and meet classmates. Students will only be eligible to receive their schedules if they have updated immunizations on file and have completed their first day packets.
Can I get my child's schedule sooner?
Schedules will not be ready for students until August 15th at orientation. If you can't attend orientation, you can send someone else to pick up your child's schedule, or schedules will be available near the front office on the first day of school.

What supplies does my child need to start school?
We provide all the supplies that students need for their classes, so you don't need to purchase additional supplies! Students need to bring a backpack every day, and will receive a Chromebook and charger the first day of school. If students would like to bring supplies, the most helpful items to have are pencils and pens, post it notes, binder paper or a notebook, and a pencil pouch.
How can I set up bus transportation for my student for this school year?
To request bus transportation, please fill out this form. Transportation Request You can email it to transportation@rvusd.org, or bring it by the school office. You can also see the approved list of bus routes with each stop here. We provide bus transportation to SLMS to and from all RVUSD elementary schools each day.
What will the schedule be for the first week of school?
Students will go to their advocacy class on the first day of school, and then rotate through various activities with their advocacy classmates as part of their orientation. These will include school photos, assigning Chromebooks, learning about the systems we use, and team-building. They will attend all their classes on Friday for short periods. We will have a regular class schedule starting on Monday, July 21.
What immunizations are required for my child to enter 7th grade?
All 7th graders are required to be up to date on their immunizations, and specifically required to have one tDap and two Varicella vaccines prior to entry into 7th grade. We cannot by law have students start school until we have verified proof of these vaccinations on file. If you have not already provided this information to the school office, please do so prior to the first day of school, in order for your child to receive their schedule.
