PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE by Kayla Bell
Welcome Back Families,
We had a wonderful first week back to school. Students and staff have been working to get to know one another and establish a classroom community and routines. Today, we had our first assembly and we talked about being Cool Crocs. Each month, students are recognized for exhibiting a particular trait. The first trait we are looking for is COOPERATIVE. Staff will be looking to recognize students are being cooperative all month long.
Next Wednesday, September 13, is our first Early Release Teacher Collaboration day. This is the first year the District will implement a 90-minute early release on Wednesday afternoons to allow educators time to collaborate and participate in professional development opportunities. We are very excited to have this additional time to work together as a team. On our first Wednesday, our team will be calibrating our writing scoring using the first piece of narrative writing that students completed. We will dismiss at 1:35 pm that day.
Next Thursday, September 14, is our Back to School night. When parents arrive, they should report directly to the classroom. Our first K-5 session will begin at 6:00 pm and the second K-5 session will begin at 6:45 pm. We really hope that you make plans to attend this parent night. This is an important night for teachers to be able to connect with parents to share classroom expectations, homework guidelines and curricular information. You are an important part of your child’s educational process. We value your support and your input. We look forward to seeing you next week. I will be in the building that night if you wish to connect with me directly. If we do not connect, you can always reach me via email.
Finally, I think we can all agree that we appreciate having fresh air once again. As a community we really felt the impact of the fires that burn across the state. Let’s hope we see a little rain in the forecast to help our forests.
See you next week,
Kayla

PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM (PEP)
The Beaverton School District has been awarded a $669,484 Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) Grant from the U.S. Department of Education and is in year two of the three year grant. The Beaverton School District (BSD) has developed a comprehensive project to improve the quality of physical education in the District, increase physical activity before, during, and after school, and create a school culture of wellness and activity that improves student health, nutrition, social/emotional development, and learning outcomes. In addition to the grant funds, the District has developed several community partnerships to support the project including Nike and Tualatin Hills for a contribution of over $235,000. The BSD program will serve more than 28,000 K-8 students. As part of this grant there is required data that must be collected on physical activity, nutrition and physical fitness. Please read the attached form with more information about the data collection. If after reading you decide your student will not participate in the data collection, print, sign and send the form back to the main office of your student’s school.
