Black History Month 2023
We are taking the month to also celebrate Black History Month at Twain. National Geographic Kids explains, "Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today."
Here at Edison, we kicked off the month celebrating diversity with a school-wide "Diversity Circus" assembly where our students learned that the importance of accepting and understanding all people. Our Eagles are also studying notable Black Americans from throughout our country's history who have impacted the United States is important ways. In addition, many of our classes are learning about music, poetry, art, and other important contributions made by Black Americans in our country.
As we continue to work to create a culturally responsive, equitable learning environment for all of our students, it's important that we celebrate diversity and make sure that none of our students feels marginalized. We want our Eagles to learn about and appreciate the many cultures and races that make up our diverse country. This is not just a priority during February; it's a priority throughout the year.
